GM fatten rebates on full-size pickups
DETROIT (AP) — General Motors added $500 to existing $2,000 rebates on its full-size pickup trucks and Ford Motor quickly followed suit.
The $2,500 rebates will be available on GM's Chevrolet Silverado and Avalanche and GMC Sierra, and on most of Ford's F-150 models. They took effect Thursday and will be available through Jan. 31.
"It's a market where there's a lot of competition," GM spokesman Jeffrey Roegner told The Detroit News. "We are remaining aggressive."
GM is also offering to waive remaining lease payments for customers who lease or buy another new GM model between Apr. 1 and Aug. 31, according to The News and Detroit Free Press. That offer expires March 31.
Ford last week introduced an offer to waive up to eight lease payments for customers buying or leasing a new Ford vehicle.
Wendy Beale Needham, an analyst with Credit Suisse First Boston, said GM's incentives swelled 23.7% in December to an average of $3,377 per vehicle as the company sought to meet market-share targets.
