More room by raising the rear seat???

a friend suggested raising the rear seat 3" or so with some aluminum blocks giving us a little more space to fit a bigger box. Has anybody attempted this? Do you see any problems I might run into?

yes i did something similar. i actually used three or four thick washers to achieve the desired height. remember, if you raise it too much this will result in the mid-gate folding down that much less.

Also in a wreck the seat could come lose due to added leverage.......

I have 2 10's under the rear seats without raising the seats....it can be done.

it can be done. i have seen a custom box at a local sound shop here. they say it will fit under the rear seat with no mods. i think the one that was in stock held one sub. a two sub unit was available for order. if i remember correctly it sold for around $180 to $200 bucks.

do you have pics of your install??? I'm curious to see what the box looks like. Also, do you know the cubic footage of it???

When you say it will fit, you mean that it can fit under the seats correct? What I mean is the seats will not fold and allow the midgate to drop with that box in there, correct?

There is no way to make a sub box that will allow the seats to fold completely flat unless you use a 2" deep sub. I managed to squeeze a little over .5 cuft in boxes under both sides of the rear seat. I am limited to sub depths of 4.5" (or 5" if I add a spacer). That will get you into a bunch of good 10" subs...none of the ridiculous monster stuff though. A few good shallow mounting depth subs include CDT MS-100 or 80 (4" and 3.5"), Cadence Mallut (under 4"), IDQ10 Version 1 (4.5"), and a few others that slip my mind. There are a bunch of 8" subs that will fit in there and may even sound better given the small volumn of the boxes. I came across some of the CDT's and everything fits like a glove. In an 03 if you count on a total height of 5.5" under the passenger side and 5" under the drivers side without mods or removing the seat bottoms. You will have a secure fit with the seat bottom screws just hitting the box top. Tight and secure but easy to lift out. The drivers seat is easy...13x18x5 with a notch out of the back outside corner for some bolts that stick out. You could file them down and eliminate the notch. The passener seat is more complicated and requires some thinking. If you are interested I could pass along some outside dimensions.
If you want pics I should be able in a few days. Still have to carpet or vinyl.

I got two 6" deep subs under there....

But yes...there is no way to retain midgate functionality and have subs there unless they are small, and they wont provide a lot of bass.

sorry if i misled you. when i said it can be done i meant that a box could be place under the seat without modding the height of the seat. however, the functionality of the mid-gate will still be hindered.

i think your enclosures are sweet. since i have one that sounds "okay" i have not been in a big hurry to get another. then i saw your enclosure that is supposed top have great response and deep bass. maybe alot of people do not appreciate your enclosures, but i do. and when i am ready to get ine i will definitely get one of yours if it is availiable to me. i have a list of things like HID's, wheels, tires, and so on that i wanted to pickk up.
