I'm having the driver's side motor mount replaced for the FOURTH time on my 2012. This is becoming a once-a-year expense. I'm told it's the engine torque putting pressure on the mount, so this seems like a significant design flaw that I've never had with any other vehicle.

Does anyone else experience this mount failure with this kind of frequency on their Avalanche? Any ideas on how to prevent it?

wow you are the first I am reading on here about changing motor mounts often.

so I think something is either wrong or they are using junk parts or nothing wrong with mounts

Replaced mine once in 315K miles.. Drivers side. Not uncommon but once a year there has to be an issue..

I am thinking that I could have a bad driver side motor mount because I hear and slightly feel a clunk when I back up out of a parking space. The steering components all appear to be solid and in good shape.

That is very likely the problem Sir. Almost always the drivers side that breaks..

I agree the driver side is more common, but that typically is a clunk in Drive as opposed to reverse.

Easy to test though!

1. raise the hood, start the truck
2. Put it in Drive, hold the brake with the left foot
3. Tap the gas pedal a few times.

If the drivers side of the engine moves up and down, the driver's side motor mount is shot.

test 2: Do the same test, but in reverse. If the passenger side of the motor moves up and down separately from the truck, the passenger side motor mount is shot.

Here is an example of my bad driver's side motor mount, before replacing

I had my motor mounts checked this afternoon and they are getting weak, but still have some life. I am going to also check out the transmission mount this weekend.

That was very helpful! Thank you. I'm having the same issue. I noticed in this "motor mount" chain of replies, there are (4) motor mounts. Is there a SEPARATE 4-prong "rack" or different mount that holds up the WHOLE ENGINE ?

I ask, because the dealer quoted me approximately $700-$800 ! ( Thought it was a much more substantial mount - that if one of the four were rotted, it came as ONE 4-prong unit...

Thanks for your help!

Just a left side, and right side. Not sure how many hours are in the quote from the dealer, but it was a pain in the rear for me. I'd change it again myself, but during the project there was a couple times I wished I had just paid someone, if that makes any sense at all haha... Make sure you have plenty of socket knuckles, different sized extensions and time on your hands..

Great point. Time and extra tools (socket knuckles).
I 'm pretty handy with a lot, but I think this one car repair could be bigger than me... !

Is yours 4x4 or 2-wheel drive? I think there is more access on the 2wd, just in case that helps you

I’ve gone through the same thing, and I thought it was just me

Upgrade to the Hummer H3 motor mount, it is solid instead of gel filled. Fit is the exact same. I run it on my 2010.

But every year seems extreme unless you're doing neutral drops or drag racing.. . Was it replaced with OEM or aftermarket the prior 3 times?
I am definitely going to try this because this is crazy to have to keep replacing those mounts in theory. That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the insight.

Holy crap the price has gone way up! It was $77.78 when I ordered in January 2022.. Now it's $229 on Amazon and $258 on Rockauto...

Gotta shop around - Uncle Bezos doesn't like your big truck. ;-)

If drilled out hockey pucks won't work, perhaps there is application in another make? (e.g. replaced a $100 Suzuki gel mount for a $6 Mopar solid equiv once.)
I only briefly glanced, but seems like Napa has the Balkamp version at a not-ridiculous price?
