I got my hands on a Move bumper DIY kit for my 02 Avalanche. If everything goes to plan i'll have it welded up and on my truck this weekend.

Keep this thread up top and post lots of fabrication notes and pictures!

I've never heard of that brand of bumper; where did you buy it and for how much, if you don't mind posting the details?

I had never heard of them till i ran into a truck on Instagram that had one on it. so i went to https://www.movebumpers.com/ and check out what they had. They sell both ready to bolt on bumpers and DIY bumper kits that you weld up yourself, which saves a lot compared to buying a ready to bolt on from any company. The kits start at $395 plus and i think $75 for shipping. Depending on what you add to it goes up in price . I paid $545 out the door for mine which i added a winch plate. Its made of 3/16 A36 steel all pre bent and cut. Per instructions your use your truck as a Jig to tack weld it together and remove it once you have everything tack in place. Then Weld it up. My buddy is going to weld it up for me hopefully this weekend. I will be taking lots of pictures and maybe even a time lapse of it coming together. >:D

how will you protect from rust?
Paint or Powder coat?

I'm going to primer it and paint it with Rust-Oleum Automotive bed liner. i was thinking about powder coating it but if i get nicks and chips i can't just spray it like the bed liner.

I can't wait to hear how this turns out.  I recently got a welder purchase approved.  Pictures during the process would be great and I'd also be curious what kind of welder your budding is using to do this and what skill level he thinks would be required.

+1

Well its going to happen this weekend. Last weekend was a bust since my buddy had plans. I'll be sure post pictures once i got the everything installed. For the mean time here is a copy of the instruction that came with the kit. Gives you a ideal of what kind of job this is to tackle.

Well the bumper is installed on my truck. It was a bit more work then expected and we ran into a few issues that was our fault but we manage to get it done. A few things about this kit. Its a base kit and requires the person putting it together to reinforce it. This was one thing that i wasn't %100 ready for, i didn't being enough metal to beef it up as mush as is going to need with my 12k winch. I plan on beefing up the mounts to the frame in a few weeks but then that its a good kit. Here are some pictures i took during the build.

How much more for the grill protector? Might be willing to do something like this but I would need to buy a welder... And learn to weld.. (Which is good for work anyhow since I will need to learn how to for some jobs I will be doing there..)

Sorry for the last response i been busy these last few weekends. I'm not sure if they sell a Grill protection but if you go to the web site they will tell you what can been be added on and how much.

They must have stopped with the pre built bumpers. They were listed for about $1500 now i don't even see them on the page any more.

They say there is no rear bumper for the avalanche but lists one when you want to order...

I got a price of just under $1000 for both bumpers but didn't actually order it.

I would need to find someone near me that can do the welding for me. Then Line-X it... I might have a place that can do it but have to check with them...

The Winch is inside the bumper with rollers on the outside?

How has yours held up at this point?

And when you have the winch mount can you still mount the 20" light bar in the bumper???
