mpg- aftermarket add ons

i have a 02 av, with a 8.1 gas drinker. has anyone found an after market add on to be helpfull in improving the mpg

There are several things you can do. The easiest thing I did was put in a K&N Filter. I think that it improves both performance and gas milage. I have the 5.3 and get between 18 and 19.5 +/- on the highway depending on speed and driving conditions.

You wont see any major improvements in the mileage but there are a few things that can be done to improve mpg and performance. nothing secret just the usual....exhaust, intake, programmer, light foot, etc. the beauty of it is that the beast will be consistent with the mileage if towing or not...mine gets about 14 mpg highway lifted with 38's.....amazes most people with 1/2 tons who get around 9 mpg with similar setups...sit back and enjoy the torque

I added a Gibson sideswept cat back system and improved my mileage from 10 to about 14 mpg also . You are probably right about the K&N filter too.

Did you just replace the filter or the whole box and intake??

I put in just the K&N filter. I am going to put in the performance pack which replaces the box, but only after my warranty expires. If I understand everything as it was explained to me is that just replacing the filter with a K&N does not void the warranty but the K&N FIPP does. At least that is what I was lead to believe.

They would have to prove that the Filter setup caused the failure that you were having repaired under warranty. Most dealerships would just honor the warranty and not hassle you.. If you arent sure about the dealer you use, you can just keep the stock airbox and if anything happens that they need to repair under the hood just put it back stock

Went to Cabela's in Hamburg Pa, round trip 155.42 miles used 6 gals. of gas do the math just changed to the KN drop in filter have 20 thousand on filter since changing
Have 5.3 with 3.73 rear
