Welcome to the Club....

I have #40 true duals on mine and I love it....Loud, but not crazy loud.

GoBot..

im going from a 99 2500 silverado with the 6.0. i cut the muffler out of it and put in a straight pipe. now that was loud. don't want that much attention any more.

I went with the 40 series... get a little resonance in the cab right around 2k rpm. It bugged me a little at first, but now anytime I drive something else I miss it... I think you should do it.. I got mine installed for $150 total I believe.

is there a big difference between the 50 and 40 ?

Depends on your definition of big....

The sound is different and well worthy of a listen to if ya can find locals with each installed.....check around your area in the cruise section and see who might let ya hear their truck....

Good luck

so which is louder the 40 or the 50 and would they both produce the same improve MPG ?

The 40 is louder, but if you're expecting a mpg increase from either - don't. If there is any it's negligible and not worth the investment. Now the nice FM sound....that's worth it. (y)

40 is louder...

Neither will improve mileage IMO...in fact I bet ya lose some mileage....since you will stomp it more to hear exhaust...

Good luck all

so im going with the 40 delta flow series. my next question is which one? what are my inlets and outlets? i know i need 3" but where are they. centered, left, right?

Doofive,

The inlets are centered and the outlets are off center...If you going true dual, you will have to weld them together streight up and down (vertically) with your outlet coming out in the same position....If your going with the two into one, the inlet again is centered and the outlets are at equal space apart coming out the back.

If you are going with one muffler, I believe the common recommendation around here is center 3" in, dual 2.25" out. Note that this is just what I've read, and that there is some opinion that the 40 shouldn't be used at all on the Av, and therefore these size recommendations may be wrong. Do your own research, consult a professional, buyer beware, etc. etc. :cautious: ;)

40 Series Delta application

Hey Rich,

You have me a little concerned....Where did you read that the #40 should not be used. ???

Please share more information...If this is bad for my truck, I'd like to get it off before I really do any damage.

Thanks Bro,

Sorry, probably should have worded that a little differently so as not to alarm anyone who hasn't read all of the threads. CAFCNA member muffman, who some may consider to be an authority on the subject, and whose experience seems to be extensive with FM applications, has opined many, many times in many, many threads that the only recommended muffler for the Avalanche, both according to FM, and through his experience is the 70 series.

However, as you very well know, many of us have the 40 and 50 series and are thrilled with them. I stressed over this, read all the posts, and still went with the "incorrect" muffler for my Av ;)

Phew!!!....

You really had me worried for a moment...Yeah, I too have read some of muffman's posts and see where he recomends the #70...

I, like you have gone with the #40 taboo system and love it. I've had it on the AV for over a year and a half w/ no problems what so ever (Thank GOD)...In fact I didn't have 3000 miles on my truck when I swapped it out for True Duals.

I do know there has been concern of back pressure with an exhaust system like mine / ours, but according to a Great friend of mine these trucks are built to handle the back pressure with the assistance of the computer....Just what I've heard...

Hope all is well,

GoBot (Bill)

I've got the "other taboo" one...the 50. Not dual like yours, either. Like mine just fine. Plenty of others have the 40, 40 delta, single, dual, with/without x-pipe, etc.

:)

Rich,

Have you had your on long?

In the next few months, I'm going to be adding Headers with the cats installed....Attaching the stainless 3" pipes all the way back again to #40's....

God I love that sound

mostly I just get a kick out of reading his witty posts. The little bit of info I pick up is just a bonus, and I still didn't follow his advice
As I understand it it's because of the resonance and the fact that the 70 doesn't have it that it's the recommended choice. When the time comes I will probably go with the 50 and a resonator as I did on my Sierra. I expect slightly more resonance, which is ok, and I know what to expect for sound.

TXyank,

This is true...There is a degree of resonance, but honestly It's not that loud in the cab...Ask a few of the guys who sat in my AV while at St. Augie GTG...I reved the system with them in there and all of them said it wasn't any louder than what they had or what they expected....

However....On the outside....It's LOUD and a lot of resonance, but it's the path I choose...God I Love that Sound ....Anyway, That's my story and I'm sticking to it (y)

G'day

I do too. But even the 50 without a resonator had too much drone inside for me. I don't dare to try a 40. However, I have been tempted to try a 40 WITH a resonator.
