With hot chocolate and a mocha in hand, we went out to a tree farm on Saturday looking for a Christmas tree. It's not a far drive out to North Plains, less than 20 minutes on a good traffic day.

We pulled into the farm, picked up a saw and map.
After searching through hundreds of trees, over many hills and valleys, we came upon a nice 8-1/2 foot, grand noble. It would fit just perfectly in the corner of our living room. Soon the tree was on its side being drug over to the AV.

With the covers off, the tree filled the bed and spilled over the passangers side. ?I definately needed to get this one bound. So I drove down to the wierd looking machine and watched as they stuffed the tree in. ?It was pulled through bottom first. ?In a flash, the tree was wrapped tightly with twine pulling the branchs in close so that it looked like a closed umbrella.

Now it was much more managable. Withe the midgate down and the seatcover in place, we fed the tree in top first. Wedging it in at an angle got the whole thing to fit! I put the covers back on and closed the tailgate. ?From the outside, you couldn't even tell there was tree in the AV. Talk about a serious air freshener. I love that smell.

We drove to the gate to give them their saw back and pay. The guy at the gate asked "if we were going to come back on Sunday to try and find one." I looked at him with a confused look. I didn't know he couldn't see the 8'-6" tree that my AV just ate.

I rolled down the back window and he looked in. At first he thought we got a table top tree. Something in the 3 to 4 foot range! I got out and went round back. He peered in as I let the tailgate down. He was suprised to see just how big the tree was. We talked about the AV and the side storage bins as I paid.

I turned the Christmas lights on in the rear window and we headed home to trim our Christmas tree, smiling and joking about the look of disbelief on his face.

Great story! I thought it was going to be one of those "my dog ate my homework" kindof things.

A good Christmas tree is the best natural air freshener. I may take a couple of small branches we trimmed off of ours and put it under the front seats.

The first AV Christmas Classic! Even Rudolph got his start somewhere. I like it! Maybe when we have kids, I'll read that story to them on Christmas night so they'll have visions of AV's throttling in their heads.

Our ideal tree is tall . . 10 ft 6 in., but not too big around. As we didn't have too far to haul it, I didn't even drop the midgate or remove the covers. Just slid it in trunk first and left the tailgate down. Thanks to the piece of commercial carpet that I have over the sticky rubber mat, getting it out was equally easy - I just pulled the carpet back and the tree came with!

Yep, the Av's a good tree hauler - much easier than on the roof of my Blazer in years past!

Made the trip to cut our Christmas tree,(an annual event)at the tree farm. Got a 7' Blue Spruce and didn't bother to drop the midgate or bail the tree.Just took out the hard pannels and left the tailgate down.

You are right about the air freshener, wow

Thought I was home free and on my way, not so fast.
Had to show the tree farm guy how the midgate works.

Then after putting it back up and starting to leave, had to show the midgate to a Surb owner. he couldn't believe all the room. Bet he'll be out shopping this week for an AV.

When I finally left , the Surb owner was trying to figure out how to tie his tree to the top of his truck.

Being an AV owner in a rainy state can make you popular for different reasons. It was becasue of the AV that I was chosen to get the tree for the office yesterday.

It was pouring rain when I headed out. Since they want a tree fast and about average in size, I headed over to a local 'fresh-cut' tree lot in someone's side yard.

There were a couple people mulling around under umbrellas checking out all the trees leaning up against the fences. It didn't take very long to pick out the right tree, a nice 8 foot grand noble. I picked it up, shuffled over to the cashier and paid for it.

Since the midgate was already down, the AV quickly ate yet another tree. As I was closing the tailgate, I saw the lot owner walking over.

He asked about the AV and whether they really changed as fast as they say ni the commercials. So I gave him a quick walk around the AV. Since it was still raining pretty well, I wasn't going to pull the tree back out and show the change. He liked the idea of camping inside the AV during hunting season and said he may have go down to check out the AVs at the dealer. So I gave him a brochure and headed back to drop the tree off at the office.

I work in the renovated warehouse area of downtown so there are no real sidewalks seperating vehicles and the doors. There were a couple people standing outside smoking at the entrance as I backed up. Since the tree was not bound I did have to pop the panels to get it out without breaking the tree. They were shocked at the size of the tree that came out of the back of the AV. The guy said that was pretty cool being able to change the seating so fast after watching the midgate go back up.

pdxkevin, .....and I thought how sweet my av was, bringing home, the 7-8....foot christmas tree from home depot, was.

you up north avrs have a better shot, at the christmas tree experience.

I saw a post, about going off road in illinois...jnspur? and the fellow avrs, to cut their own tree.

down here, its the n.carolina ,or grocery store tree deal, for some reason, i dont think a palm tree will hold my ornaments and lights quite right.

heck I could cut them down in myback yard.

The pine needles in the back, gave me a reason to fold the midgate, and wash out, the bed when we were done!

so....... I wish you an av christmas, ..i wish you an av christmas, and a av....new year...
