I was wondering if anyone else out there has been having a problem with thier hips felling the metal supports in thier seats! Yes I am a big man 6'7" and 400lbs! I do have a new foam insert ordered from the dealer for the seat, but it has been so bad that it has bruised my nerve! So is anybody else having this issue? If so what have you done? If this does not work then I am going to a local shop to get it fixed!!

I'm 6'4" and have a pinched nerve in my lower back... which I never knew about until I had my AV.

The lumbar support hits me right where it hurts the most. After a few months in and out of the dealership they have no solution for me.

After 6-7 months at the chiropractor, the problem is all gone! :)

I've found that the AV's seats can either be really comfortalbe or really uncomforatable. There's not much inbetween.

i had the same problem with my 02 av, i had to trade it for an 03 with leather full function seats.....................good luck

Similar story here too, in regards to the nerve pain. I noticed that by carrying everything ni my front pockets the pain went away. Hope that helps someone else too.

I actually thined out the wallet and moved it to the front pocket but my hip still hits the frame! I really think that something is wrong with the seat! I hope that they will get the new insert in ASAP!!

I am a 6'3" 255# guy in great shape (36" waist). I too can feel the steel supports in the sides of the seat and it HURTS LIKE HELL! My wife is a 5'2" 110# petite woman and her butt fits in the seat perfect. Unless they built the av to be a chick truck, THE FRONT SEATS ARE TOO DAMN NARROW!!!

Brand new truck and I sit on an ugly cheezy car cushion I got at Wal-Mart.

I traded in my 02 for an 03. The 02 seats were fine. This is the fully adjustable leather I'm talking about. The seats in my 03 (also leather) have caused me a great deal of pain. They made so many changes to the 03 seats that, in my case, were not good. Understand, I HAVE NO BACK PAIN WITH ANY OTHER VEHICLE!

First, I went to the dealer. . . forget getting any help there.

Then I went through GM Customer Service . . . completely useless.

Then I went to an upholstery shop. They gave me some upholstery foam to put on the seat bottom and back and told me to try it many different ways and to cut it up to fit. Some improvement, but not close enough to being comfortable.

Then I went to a back pain / orthopedic specialty shop. They had lots of seat pads and devices. I tried them all in the AV and could not get the proper fit.

Then I went back to the upholstery foam. I finally got the right combination of foam pieces going to get a pain-free ride, but it looks like @ss. I could get the pieces installed in the cushions, but they wouldn't function the same. So, I'm just leaving the foam pieces on the seat. Not real happy with the stock seats in a 42k vehicle. One consolation though, is that the upholstery place says they have found that customers have the same problems with luxo vehicles like MB, BMW, Lexus, and Caddy. The bottom line is that no manufacturer can make a seat that fits everyone just right. YMMV

15 minutes in my 02 t blazer was all I could take!

The sciatic would kill me... had to get out and walk it off constantly... Drove to the bay area and thought I would die. However... the AV Seat fits me perfectly. I drive it over 100 miles daily and have all but eliminated my nerve problem... of course the hot tub and some tender back rubs from the little lady helps a little too. ;D

Good luck... not many things worse than back pain...

I have had all kinds of back problems in the past year. I drive a Grand Am on a regular basis, which is a little difficult getting in and out of when your back is sore. When I get in the Av, it is like driving a dream. Stepping up into the truck instead of squashing down into a car is a big help. While the Av is not the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven, it is pretty close. I can usually get about 3 hours in the Av without having to take a break.

But I have the cloth bench seats. At 6' and 200 lbs+, there is a ton of room in the drivers seat. The seat does not seem to agitate my back problems.

I'm 6'2" 250lbs w/36in waste and back problems. My back use to hurt after driving my S10 Blazer 45min to work. The seats in the AV a very comfortable and my back pain seems to have gone away. Shortly after buying the AV I started riding a mountain bike (getting inshape) so that could also have something to do with it.

dday

Squatch, I know your pain. I'm 6'6" and about 345 and have been wondering if there is anything to be done about the seat - mine are cloth buckets by the way - and I have the same problem with the bucket seat in my '98 Chevy Lumina.

6' 6" and 260lbs with no problems that I can tell......'03 with bucket seats....

I got an '02 with bench, blackchev is 6'3'' and less than 200# and the seats are uncomfortable to him. He says that the edge of the seat does not support his lower thigh area. You are all too tall for the AV and should hand the keys over to your wives! Right, Kim? ;)

2003 with full function leather seats...my seat feels great to me and I have had back problems for about 9 years now. I am on the other side of the spectrum though.... I am only 5'5" and about 120lbs.

Well guys I got my Avalanche back this Monday! ?They ?took the seat apart and replaced the regular foam insert witha new one and place a 8"x8" square of foam in the middle. ?Well they did a crappy job of putting the seat back together and by Thursday my hip was hurting! :8: :8: ?So I went ahead and took the seat apart and moved the piece of foam back to the back right corner of the seat where it hurts my Butt. ?So far it seems to be working! ?I plan this weekend to stop by a shop and get a 3 foot x 3 foot square of foam. ?I want to cut it out to cover the rear metal pieces of the seat. ?I was also thinking about running a couple pieces of lawn chair webbing inbetween the wire to create a weave pattern to reduce the droppage of the foam inbetween those little wires!! ?So if everything goes well I will take some pictures and hopefully get done with my sore ARRRSSSS!! ?Before everbody asks yes I will take some dimensions and have them posted with pictures!! ?THIS WILL BE FOR A 2002 AV Bucket Seat!! ?

I have an 02' NFE AV, and I have had no problems with my seats. Keep in mind that I am 6'7" and 250lbs, and I just love my seats. However I have had multiple other things wrong with the truck, but no seat problems.
If only they could have made it with an inch more head room, I would be completely satisfied. :)
