My Transformers Autobot. Avalanche Prime. Lots of Pics

Here you go. HID with cutoff on top, LED with cutoff on the bottom

And reversed with LED on top.

Now which one do you like. I am liking the LEDs and thinking I'm wasting my money getting the other sets just to try. I do think however that I need to find one with a smaller heat sink or something. I've seen a Philips with a ribbon heat sink.
My only gripe is that the heatsink is bulk and gets hot fast.
While the projector was warm to the touch with the HIDs, The heatsink was warm to the touch on the LEDs.

Stay tuned. I'll put the garage door up tonight and see how it looks then and add more pics.
Now I got to wait for the LED strip to get here too so I can make my halo ring.

Oh yeah I got to get the All4onHi mod done as well so I can wire the high beams 12V wire to the cutoff solenoid to retract the cutoff when the high beams are on. This will then allow me to use the high beam bulb location to install a LED cube or something

Lighting project coming along slowly. I ordered a couple more parts that should be delivered tomorrow.

Color Morph (RGB) Demon Eyes kit
Obviously to go in the projector housing
Please disregard the Furd projector in the pictures below

Switchback LED strip (white/amber)
Option 1: I'm thinking of putting this in the light ring around the projector
Option 2: I can also put these in the bottom of the headlight housinghousing.

Very interested in this project as you know. I will be working on my own here shortly. My LED projectors are the JW speakers and they are slightly bigger than the headlight housings so I will likely cut away most of the housing. I need a smallish shroud on mine that will still fit a 3" projector.

I am also interested in how you like your strips since I am looking to do something similar. I may do the shrouds and then have some strips in there as well. I HAVE some JiToy (I think? Something like that) switch back 12" strips I am looking to use but not sure yet. Others have suggested that they are not very bright.

Also looking at using CCL rings in mine if I can find a shroud that is compatible.

Unfortunately of all the parts ordered I am only able to use the RGB demon eyes and the controller.
The RGB strip is semi-rigid and cannot fold into the square for the angel eyes In addition the way it bends will have the LEDs facing sideways rather than facing forward. I've also learned that I cannot find a flexible strip that will bend the way I want. I also purchased a set of Morimoto XB square led angel eyes but that also is too large.

Last resort will be for me to build my own.

Here's what I got so far:

Amber or white. My preferred colors of choice for day to day driving.

I don't know exactly how big your headlights are however you may still be able to fit it in without totally destroying your lights.
When I had to drill into the housing to install my strobes years ago I realized that there is actually an outer and an inner bucket. The outer bucket is approximately 5" tall while the inner bucket is close to 4" tall. There is ample space between the two so you can adjust the headlight beam angle by moving the rear of the inner bucket up or down using the rod like thingy in the back of the headlight housing. You may have to cut into the back of the inner bucket to fit your 3" LED pod but more than likely the outer bucket will stay intact. You'll end up losing the ability to aim the lights but I'm sure you can figure something out.

I'm now contemplating putting a 2.5" or 3" LED pod in my high beam location due to the fact that the HID projectors will be able to do double duty has high and low beams by raising or lowering the cutoff line using the solenoid in the mini H1 projector housing.

Well if I cut off the mounting tabs my lights will fit inside the housing.. I am doing other projects right now but will get back to it. Just thinking of possible ways to do it. just afraid if I modify the projector housing I will null the warranty and they are too expensive to do that. I Will likely hack these light buckets up. A $130 set of buckets are easier to replace than $900 worth of LEDs... ;)

Sadly after a month of buying and returning parts, I have come to accept that I cannot find a square halo kit for this particular projector shroud and no one will make one. I definitely do not want to add individual LEDs in spots around the ring as the light output won't be even. After calling up the guy who I bought the projector and the shroud from, we decided that it would be best for me to return the whole unit as he does not have a compatible shourd and I am already 3 days past the 30 day return period so I can't waste any more time.

Therefore I am now back to square one. No projector and no shroud. I am not giving up though as I believe I have already found a different projector and shroud that is similar to the one I had albeit slightly larger. New shroud is listed as ~ 3.45"/ 88 mm tall versus the current one which I measured at ~3.35"/85mm tall. I don't have my headlight bucket open yet to measure the exact height of the space within the reflector but I did try measuring with a tape measure from the front and it comes up to ~85mm tall meaning I'll have to shave about 2mm from the top and bottom which shouldn't be such a big deal.

That's the trial and tribulations of doing one off projects so we'll see how this goes.

Like I said earlier this project is getting more expensive daily. Hopefully for guys who'd like to tackle this in the future, you'd know exactly what I used and save time and money swapping parts.

Got a second set of projectors and shrouds in the mail today
This time I went with the Apollo III shrouds and added a twist.

Like they say, in for a penny, in for a pound. If I am going to modify the headlight housing to do what I want, I may as well go on with the modifications and not skimp on it. This will require cutting the shroud or the inner headlight bucket significantly so we'll see when I get all the parts I want and finally take the headlight apart.

Rodney I guess we will be in similar boat with cutting up the headlight housing by the time I start this

New shroud:

And why I picked this one:

I will be hooking up the outer ring to my turn signals as well as adding the color changing demon eye kit.

Since I think I'm going to be destroying the inner bucket, I am contemplating going all out and moving the strobes from the high beam location and putting in a 3" LED cube.

If I do this I think I can move the strobes to the fog light housing in the bumper since I already have a set of strobes in the parking lamp housing.

I'll say one thing "you are determined". Good luck with this set.

I am probably not going to have my headlights done for nationals. I have too much other stuff to get done before then. I promised a local team I would build their drupal site and it is not going as smooth as I would like. SO many pieces to put together to make this stuff... Trying different directions.

But then once I am beyond that I will start picking away at my truck. I want to have the computer and stereo solid before we go and I have some work to do there.

LOL. Yeah I have to update that gallery one of these days
haha yeah, I was just looking seeing what I could do compared to what others did and saw that flash across i was like I know that truck! but from looking on there might put some 305/70/17 on my truck!

I was waiting until my other parts for the headlight mod came in but unfortunately one piece is on backorder and I can't keep my excitement contained much longer.

Ordered 3" LED cube to put in the high beam location. That should be arriving in the mail today.
I also ordered Oracle LED's 3" square color shifting halos to go on the cube and compliment the color shifting demon eyes.
That's on backorder and not expected to ship until June 2nd. That's 7 days from today however if feels like a month to me.

That will be AWESOME! I can't wait to see it all together!

Yeah. Unfortunately, I'm now doubting the fitting of the new shrouds. I want the switchback ring on the shroud really bad however my initial measurements by putting it against the front of the headlight housing shows that the shroud itself is actually taller than the whole housing . I'm wondering how much I will have to cut off to get it to fit. What might work in my favor is that the circumference of the back of the shroud is wider than the front where the halos are because it is conical in shape so I'm hoping that it'll fit somehow

Hey. One thing I've gotten really good at is modding stuff to fit so we'll see.
The suspense is really killing me. I got notified by FedEx that my package has been delivered. Now I just want to leave work and go home to pick it up.......but I can't. At least not for another hour.

Hey it could be worse I don't have any exciting reason to get off work and go home. I need more money for mods  (y)

Ha, and that's E showing off the Autobot to my daughter and me at Nationals last year. (y)

Had to remove my hood and fender stripes this weekend due to the vinyl stripe tearing.
It took me over 4 hours between 2 days just to clean off the gum residue from the hood and fender. Sadly after all the work involved, I'm not sure I'll be putting those back on again.
