My Two Problem Avalanches

J

JoeZ

GUEST
I am now on my second Avalanche. The first was a black 2500 4WD, and the second is a black 2500 4WD. The first one blew oil from the front differential from day one, had a knock in the engine, cruise didn't work, the air bag light kept coming on, the limited slip didn't work, heated seats quit after 15 minutes, trans started in second gear sometimes, engine quit going down the road at night, wouldn't take gas at most gas stations, and had a terrible wine and vidration at 58MPH. After 11 trips to various dealers GM bought it back at 11,200 miles and I bought another one. Now the second one wouldn't take gas, so it was fixed. The brakes had a slight pulsing pedal when it was started and at low speeds. If the steering and brake were used in a parking lot it was like manual steering and manual brakes. So I made an appiontment for the problem. Only thing is that the brakes and steering failed the night before the appointment and I hit a Peterbuilt dump truck on a back road at low speed. I had it towed away and now GM experts claim that if you are going slow enough (under 15mph) and need to stop quickly and steer too, you will probably loose most of your steering and a good deal of your braking. "It's the nature of the beast" is what they told me. Now my almost new (2800 mile) Avalanche has been towed to another GM dealer for a second opinion, but GM refuses to fix the problem. They say live with it. "And turn the damage to the insurance compamy, that's what they are there for". :8:Filed with the BBB and DOT. Fox 5 Problem solvers sent forms to be filled out, so it may be on TV. I really like the vehicle, but I want it fixed right. :8:

Dude,

You have the worst luck of anybody

Imagine getting 2 bad Avs when there are 2500+ of us here who may have some problems but not nearly the amout of problems you have had...and on 2 different vehicles!!!

I really hope your luck changes soon

BTW, if it helps your fight. My Av has never given me a problem steering and stopping at the same time at any speed.

Is this for real . . . . ?

Lose steering and brakes at low speeds . . . ?

Haven't heard of such a string of bad luck in a long time.

I am curious about the loosing steering when braking. I have played in a few large parking lots at night to practice emergency stopping when wet and have never noticed this
At 50 mph slam on the brakes and cut steering different ways to see how beast reacts just to know what i would be confronted with in an emergency situation. No problems with steering here at full lock up. ABS limited sliding somewhat and still gave you some control.
I am leaning towards the Trolling side.

I'll bet a dozen Krispy Kreams he can't give you two valid VINs :D:
Of course that's just my opion, I could be wrong.

Try these numbers PUFFER
3GNGK23G92G200457
3GNGK23G42G301888
Didn't realize this was a geek board.

Is it possible that this guy is not a troll and is actually the unluckiest guy on earth ???

I hate to quote myself but it is required here.

Those VINs are not for Avalanches.

TROLL!!!!!

Mark - I am not good with VIN's - what should we be looking for, to ID an AV VIN?

Please help a few more of my brain cells :)

I'm no expert but I did a google search for "vin lookup" and one of the sites that came back was http://www.planetsalvage.com/cocoon/ps.xml?producer=html&action=vrfq

I went there and entered the VINs and they came back indicating that the vehicle was a 2002 Silverado. I then pulled out my registration and looked at my VIN Mine starts with "3GNEK" and I bet yours does too. The ones he posted were "3GNGK"

There was a website that explained how to decipher the VIN but I can't find it now.

Sounds like he wrecked a couple of Chevy's and is blaming them for it by bad mouthing on every board he can find. :8:

Only thing I can't figure out is how a troll like that can have such a cool name? ;D

I was implying that this may be a troll in my first post, but gave the gentleman a chance to substantiate his story before using the term. There is way too much defensive posturing if this was a real post. My original question still stands: How did you find this website and why are you just posting all this now?

Not to pee on this parade, but those VIN numbers ARE for two 2500 avalanches. Per CARFAX:

VIN: 3GNGK23G42G301888
Year/Make/Model: 2002 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE K2500
Body Style: Crew Pickup
Engine Type: 8.1L V8 MFI
Manufactured In: MEXICO
Search Results: 0 records found in our database

VIN: 3GNGK23G92G200457
Year/Make/Model: 2002 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE K2500
Body Style: Crew Pickup
Engine Type: 8.1L V8 MFI
Manufactured In: MEXICO

Not making a case for troll/no troll but people sure seem to be grinding someone for complaining.

I can believe the guy. One of my vettes ended up a lemon and the second one had problems as well that finally got corrected after half a dozen trips to the dealership. Seems like this guys story is plausible since the 2500's numbers are far less than the 1500's so the defect rates might be higher.

Everyone please remember the TOS...if you have not read it yet please do it can be found from links on the home page.

Some people may have had problems with their Avalanche....this is no reason to make it personal and attack them....

Give JoeZ a chance...ask him questions and try to answer his but do not make this personal or this thread will be closed.

To JoeZ:

It does seem like a lot went wrong with your two Avalanches...you mentioned items going bad that have not been mentioned before....Where do you stand now?...Do you have any questions?...Have you searched our forums for the problems you mention?

Maybe someone had some of them and you can learn from their experiences....

Keep us posted.

What in the hell could they have possibly been talking about? Did they really say this?

When you say "lose most steering and good deal of braking" I assume you mean the power steering takes a crapper and the anti-lock brakes prevent braking?

I've done a couple low speed panic stops (kids running in street) in my Av and it handled wonderfully.

I'm neither a "puffer" or a "geek" ;) but it was somewhat difficult for me (as well as others, obviously) to fully dissect your first post. :0: So, let's break it down a bit and see if we can find some info that'll help in regard to the low speed braking and handling problems you're having with your current Av.

First question: Were you on a gravel road when you hit the dump truck?

Rake, i also checked on the vin's
The first vin is a Avalanche, 3/4 ton 4X4
Help in breaking down vin

3GNG (K2) means 4X4-3/4ton, (3) means 4door
Dealer verified this is a Avalanche.
Hope we can help this guy out. Have never heard of many of his problems listed or some members may have thought some were normal like the problems with steering, but i have checked that before and have no problem. I hope your luck turns for the better
Just left dealer and showed him my list of items to replace and he told the parts guy to order everything on my list without even looking at AV.......

This is all too weird for me..
BTW What does "wouldn't take gas" mean? ???

If I had all these problems, I would seriously start looking for a totally new car company. I had 3 Fords and I had multiple major problems with all of them. I just had no luck with Fords no matter what I did. If this guy is telling the truth, he ought to just dump his AV, and get a Ford or Dodge. :-[

Truckman :B:

From earlier threads, the 'wouldn't take gas' may refer to the difficulty to completely fill the fuel tank on the 2500. It's the steering / braking question that has me baffled, and I can't imagine even the most obnoxious dealer handling a safety complaint that poorly!

And 'yul hate me' is back!

Me thinks the jury is still out on the truth of all this!
