Just wondering, but does anyone know how the AV got it's name?

Avalanche just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, can anyone help me see the light?

probably from that big load of snow that sometimes falls from mountains...also referred to as an Avalanche

:2: ;)

I like the last line of the article

"So there you have it: The Avalanche, a handsome luxury truck that can carry five calientes through the Grand Tetons with nary a slip"

If you read the article you see why I think its funny!!

first of all i think the Avalanche name may have come from how the mid-gate "falls" down to make a larger cargo space.
there are more cars named after natural disasters than the AV and Cyclone. how can you forget about the Cyclones' brother also known as the Typhoon. and the Geo Storm. these are just a few from off the top of my head. there could be more.

My guess would be that they named it that because of the avalanche that it was going to cause in the truck design market once it hit.

I know the first one I saw, I was driving my then two year old D****Ram, and I went "Holy S***! I gotta have one of those!" To which my wife replied :D:

Now guess whom I had to talk out of buying one for her new car two months ago.

Believe me, if it hadn't been a garage issue we would be a two AV family now.

And then, on the plus side, she loves the Trailblazer, and I gotta admit, it does drive nicely.

The Olds is actually a Toronado, another made-up name I believe.

A couple of other weather inspired model names come to mind, VW's Scirocco and the Mercury Zephyr.

Any others?

your right. the first search i did i spelled it "tornado" and it gave me a pic of the car with that spelling. obviously some other "spelling challenged" person like myself posted this. here is the correct spelling...

Seems like there was a car called the Breeze. I don't think it lasted long. ???

it was. Breeze and the Cirrus (spelling ???). i don't think about a disaster, or inclimate weather, when i think of "breeze". :D it still has to do with weather though.
