Anyone know if the Nav System on a 2013 Avalanche is vulnerable to the upcoming GPS bug?

And if so, how to remedy?

Is there such thing a a firmware update for this system?

Do you own any GPS devices or use equipment that relies on GPS to function? If so, now is probably a good time to check whether or not those products are protected against the GPS Week Number Rollover issue ? a sort of mini Y2K Bug for GPS receivers that will come into affect from April 6th this year.

The upcoming GPS rollover (not bug) is a normal, expected event in the GPS world.  The first time it happened in 1999 it, like the Y2K bug, caught some manufacturers off-guard but everyone learned the lesson.  A GPS unit built in 2013 will have been programmed to account for the week number rollover.

The firmware updates for these nav units are built in to the (seemingly overpriced) map updates that GM sells.  It looks like your 2013 still uses the DVD + activation code system (https://gmnavdisc.navigation.com/product/Catalog/Catalog_Chevrolet_Avalanche_2013/GM-North-America-Map-Update-DENSO-Global-A-v.2016/sku/23286275/en_US/GMNA/USD).  Earlier years could make use of shared or bootleg copies of the disk so GM added the activation code  to force people to pay up $180.
