I searched on here but no luck. I have a 2012 LT and I found out today that none of the fuses by the driver door will work . All of the fuses have constant power or no power (weird) I just want the cam to come on when I start the truck and go off when I turn off the truck.

So can someone tell me the best place to hard wire the dash cam? I bought the add a fuse thinking I would have this done in no time. Do I have to go to the Engine bay, I hope not.

Thanks for any help!  :help:

Is this a factory type in dash monitor or is it an aftermarket monitor/camera set-up?

There is a post around here somewhere that you can use SEO plug under the dash

Thanks so much for those links.  I did see that box yesterday but could not get the cover off. In the center of the box is a small round plastic cover and Im assuming that its one of those push in plastic holders like inside the fender wells. I was pulling pretty hard but it would not budge! If I grab the back of the box and pull the sides out and try to pull towards me I can tell that plug is the only thing holding it.

Anyone know the secret to pulling it off without breaking it ?

Get one of these:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MH4ZVHO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s04?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hardwire to the battery or other constant power source.  Has a built-in thing to prevent battery train, and depending on what type of dashcam you got, you can record when your car is parked too (motion sensor).

That's the one I use.

Although that is a good alternative my Dash Can has a full size USB connection so I had to buy one to fit that. I am going to get into that box one way or the other to hook it up. Its just to damn cold to mess with it right now.

Ok I got the cover off today. Do you think the hookup will be the same as in the other photo?

Well its works wired up like the photo.  After I got everything back together I thought oh poop should I have put an inline fuse on the hot or are those connections on the truck already fused?  Anybody?

It is on a separate fuse by itself, but it won't hurt to add another.

Just keep in mind the fuse is probably 10 amp so it's not meant to power anything that needs a bunch of power. Your dashcam will be OK

Using the images in Ernie12 Post I installed my hard wired dash cam. I did add a fuse to mine just in case.

Thanks as well for this. Made it so easy. If only I had seen it sooner before I spent way too much time checking every fuse in the box.
