What after market trailer hitch will fit a 2008 Avalanche LTZ 4X4. If not one available what platform is the Avalanche based on and would any aftermarket hitch for that platform work on the Avalanche. Finally would it be better to go with the OEM hitch. Thanks in advance for any help

Did it not come with one from Factory?

2008 Avalanche's hitch is GM part number 15106790 - it's the same part that's been used on the Avalanche, Tahoe and Suburban. I never found an aftermarket one that fit without cutting into the bumper, ended up replacing my rusted out one with the same OEM part.

Was it a big job or not? I got a rusted one also that I am going to have to tackle on of these days soon.. And how much did it cost, if you don't mind me asking

Not at all. I think the hardest part of the whole project was yanking the plastic loom clips off the old hitch 🤣 Just unhook any wire looms running along the hitch, unplug the trailer plug, the plug assembly itself untwists out of the socket on the hitch. After all that it's nothing more than unscrewing the bolts. If I recall it's two bolts right above the hitch area and two large bolts on either side where it connects to the frame. I'd recommend dropping the spare so you have room to work but I don't think it was required. It was a few years ago but I think it was somewhere around $200-250. And for what it's worth, I don't own an impact wrench and was able to do everything by hand. Some pounding was involved for the stiff bolts but they broke free pretty easily.

Thanks for the information. I appreciate it..

Just bought mine from a GM dealer in Las Vegas off ebay for $235, went with the OEM since I didn't have to mod the bumper. Rusty bolts are the biggest issue. With an impact gun it was about an hour to replace. One word of caution, wear a face shield, not just saftey glasses. a lot of crud will be coming down with it! :p
