I am trying to decide where I will put my cb. It is a small Uniden. I don't want to put it on top of the dash. Also, my old antenna (k40 trunk lip mount) will not work on the Av. Does anybody have any reccomendations or suggestions for a new antenna & mounting location? Thanks!!

Check out the thread on ham radio installation. It sounds like your best bet is to get a mag-mount antenna and run the coax through the grommet where the third brake light enters the cab.

If your CB is small enough, you might be able to remove the cubby in the overhead console and put it in there - there's a lot of room.

Well, Alot Depends On How Permanent You Want It !!!!

I Did Mine For An As Needed Installation.......

First, I Wired The CB Power Supply Via A Cigarette Lighter Adapter.

Then, I Bought A Magnetic Mount Antenna, Placed It On Top Of The Roof Centered And Brought The Cable Into The Truck Via The Sail Panel Channel And Thru The Rear Window, Behind The Rear Seat Back, Under The Carpet, And Along The Hump To The Front Of The Console.

I Placed The CB It's Self In The Cubby Hole, And Plug It Into One Of The Three Aux Power Supplies Just Above And Drilled A Small Hole Into The Top Of The Cubby Hole Housing For The Antenna Lead. (Required Removing The Console)

So, Now When I Need My CB I Just Hook-up The Antenna, Plug In The Aux Power Cord And Place The Antenna On The Roof......

I Also Used Half Of A Foam-Rubber Cup Holder (Koozie) To Support The CB The Cubby.......

And That's My $0.02 Worth...........................

Here's what I did. I got a piece of square tube. I think it was a 2"x2". I put this square tube into the hitch reciever. I made it long eough to have about 4" out of the hitch. I got a piece of 2" angle iron and welded on the end of the square tube. Then I drilled a hole to mount the K40 antenna. I then ran the cable in the bed thru the midgate. I have a bench seat so I just put the cb under center seat console. I plug the cb into the cig lighter. This worked pretty good and was able to remove it and put it in the side of the bed when not in use. The only thing was I had to wait till everything was looked before putting on the antenna. I only use it for road trips so this works for me.

;DBrianB, i had mine installed by a cb shop down here, owner is pretty cool and came out and done it himself instead of one of his flunkies.
K-40 magnetic mount centered about 6"s in front of sail, he ran wire under sail and down around along side of back window. he put the antenna wire actully between the glass and the seal where the drain is and ran the wire down the drain and and under truck.
came up under hood and back through fire wall same place he ran power wires for linear with grommets to keep from getting cut.
You have a Z66 so you lost the use of your hump,, i think all z66's come with buckets right, ???????/ i don't know.
Bought a hump mount and mounted my cobra 29 and gray 150 on it. all works fine and i have a rain cap for antenna. when i do not need it, half turn top half antenna comes off of base and put rain cap on and antenna in bed. Magnet stays put so i do not have to take it on and off.
I use radio alot because i drive so much,,,,3 to4000 miles a month, but this is working out great for me.

This is the model I have. I like it very much. It also has a weather radio. It works very well. There is a thread on my antenna installation elsewhere...

Another benefit, there is a small box that the head unit connects to that has teh power and anetnna connections. You can mount this box under the dash somewhere (I hid mine behind the panel just below the power outlets). If you want to move the radio between vehicles, you can buy the little box separately. Use a mag mount antenna and you have a nice temporary CB setup...
