Negative Feedback About My Dealer

The dealership I bought mine from did kinda the same thing, but they messed with the financing numbers. I personally thought it was kinda funny. When I tried to explain to the salesman that if you have a set price, a set interest rate and a set term than the monthly payments can't change. I got pissed and finally left the dealership. I gave GM a call on their 800 customer service line the next day. I heard back from GM in a couple hours. They said they would have a talk with the sales manager. Sure enough he gave me a call within a couple hours explaining that he was sorry and that he would honor the sales price that they had stated. Sure enough that night I went to pick it up and paid less than I originally intended.

Drop back and punt. It isn't worth starting off an Av ownership experience like this with these type of scam artists. Especially if this is the dealership you would be getting serviced from. The 2600 miles kind of scares me too. If they are this unscrupulous, who knows what they did to the Av for 2600 miles.

Unfortunately some states do not have a buyers remorse clause. :6: Make sure you read the fine print. I think your paperwork says you get the money otherwise they wouldn't want you to resign 'another' deal. If they alter the papers after you sign - they then are trying to void the deal.

If you don't get the deal you had in writting - walk. If they alter the papers or try to strong arm you - contact your states District Attourney's Office. Sounds illegal to me, like they shorted them selves and are trying to weasle out of the deal. Make sure the not only the regional office knows but make sure that GM HQ knows what this dealer is doing. You should probalby clue in the dealer that you are going to let eceryone up the chain know how you are being treated. Do not make treats - just let them know you are unhappy and will be letting the people all the way up the chain know just exactly why too. No need to lie or stretch the truth - the dealership is hanging itself.

If you do have to go that route, shop for another dealership. Be fair, honest, and upfront with them. There should be other dealerships within 500 miles of you who want your business. 500 miles is not that far in todays standards. Would you be willing to drive 500 miles to save a couple thousand dollars? Just a thought. Also see if other CAFCNA members know good dealers in your area. That's part of why we are here.

Thanks so much for the input all.

The problem at this moment in time is that *I* believe that it's a done deal. My finance company ACH'd the dealership the loan funds last Tuesday, so it's all paid for and, as far as the finance company is concerned, it's mine.

The dealership is over an hour away in MA and I am in NH. The salesman is supposed to bring the AV up to my home early today but so far no sightings.

If I don't hear from them by noon I am going to give the dealership one more call, then I will only deal with GM from then on.

Wait till they see the story on a web page.

BTW, they have another AV on their "weekly specials" page. It MSRPs at $38,126 and they are discounting $8200 to $29,926. I wonder what the story would be on this one? My AV lists at $43,121 (plus $995 woodgrain) and I'm getting $9000 off.

Call your finance company and see if/how they can help you, too. Yes, you are obligated to repay them since you've already taken the loan. However, they may be willing to pull their financing. Ensure you speak to a supervisor.

What you believe about having a deal isn't true unless you want it to be. Your deal was what you had in writing when you left; when they called you back, they changed the deal (contract), and it is totally up to you to accept it.

Contact the state attorney general and BBB no matter what the outcome. This dealer needs to be put on report.

run ... run the other way as fast as you can ..... something is not right in dealerville ..... I would do like the last post said and contact you finance company to get the money back .....

but I'll bet if the check was sent to them last Tuesday then they have done and cashed it .....

Good luck ....

The salesman called just a little while ago and apologized for being late. They had to clear some snow in the lot and he had to get all of the stuff together (which he said he has done). He's expecting his ride home to arrive shortly.

I requested a copy of the rebate form that I signed since they didn't give me one at the dealership. I have a feeling that it won't be included in the paperwork.

I will DEFINITELY be making calls on this one. While I liked the salesman, his manager was a real jerk; came on strong from the get-go. At this moment in time I am going to do my best to get the additional rebate AND, if I don't, my best at ensuring that the creep doesn't get it.

I cannot speak for every dealership, but I use to sell cars at a Ford/Lincoln/Mercury dealership in Mississippi and our used and new car managers use to do that ALL OF THE TIME!!!!

You'd be amazed at how many people will fall for it. Those who catch on, they'd just apoligize for the confusion and "compensate" them by taking additional $$ off if they take delivery that day.

They can be the most shaddy and shifty people. I guess that happens in a high stress/commission driven enviroment.

Never believe what you hear.....only believe what is on paper.

I'd try contacting the owner of the dealership. Or the general manager if the owner is out of town.

My salesman tried to talk me into accepting a chipped fog light lens and a gouged bed cover. When I balked, he called his floor manager over and they both went to work on me.

I told them I wanted to talk to the owner or gm as there was no way I was going to accept damaged goods! (My AV was a dealer exchange so they had to drive a Suburban to an out of town Chevy dealer and drive my AV back.)

They said they would talk to the gm, and 10 minutes latter everything was ok'd. I got a new bed cover off an AV on the lot, and they ordered a new lens cover.

(Before buying the AV I had the names of the owner and gm so I mentioned them by name when talking to the salesman and his boss.)

As I mentioned, the AV is a demo. The 2600 miles on it were put on by the owner who was driving the vehicle. When we test drove it his coffee mug was in the cupholder and his wife's tupperware was in the back seat.

When I signed on the vehicle they told the owner that he needed to find another vehicle to get home. Imagine if realtors could live in homes until they were sold ;)

HOW DO I LIKE THE TRUCK?

It is a beauty and I have been anxious to get it for two weeks now. Can't wait to drive it to the office this afternoon.

You know I don't want to rub salt in a wound but thinking about it - $995 for a wood dash kit :8: :8: :8: :8: :8: :9: :9: :9: :9: :9:

Yikes man - I mean a quality moulded kit that would replace your dash bezel and other panels that would cover your interior with enough exotic hardwood that when the kit was made the global temperature rose 1/2 a degree from the amount of rain forest cut down costs no more than $350 for the PARTS. Installation can be done by chimp, no lie, in under an hour as long as said chimp can follow directions, can work a hair dryer and can clean the dash properly. Even at the insane labor rate of $75 an hour and then making a criminal gross profit of 100% the cost comes in at $850.

$995? Man if they added that kit without my permission I'd tell them to stick it up their arse - ESPECIALLY if it's not in the original sales contract. Even so I'd investigate to see if you can fight it after the fact. I'd talk to the DA office in Massachusetts and New Hampshire to understand your rights.

$995 for a wood dash kit installed - man I am in the wrong freakin' business.

Chief --

Who think he'll know what he'll do after he's laid off on 3/7 - install wood dash kits for $995 in Avalanches! >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

John-

RUN....And don't look back! I am in MASS and my 02 invoice was 42,191. Since I bought it two days before the month end promising to have it off the lot by month end(April of 2002). I paid 30,000, and I even got 1,000 trade in on a 15 year old car.

I know my dealership has a couple 02s and new 03s on the lot. If you want a contact I can forward it to you. But I think you are paying WAY TO MUCH!

Let me know if I can be of assistance. Good Luck, you will LOVE the truck!

Russ...

Dealer now saying he does not know what happened to it as usual but he will take care of it if I call around and find another dealership that would do it. When it happened, his techs were gone for the day and he never asked them I also spoke to the saleman and he said he thought it would be covered and cannot unsderstand why it is not. He then spoke to the serv mgr and was told it was not but he cannot do anything about it.

any thoughts?

?but he will take care of it if I call around and find another dealership that would do it.

Explain that the dealer you find that will do it will be receiving your business for sales and service from today forward unless they step up and fix it. ?I'm guessing the warranty claim is something the dealer doesn't want hitting them (as it's their fault) and/or the repair under warranty pays very little time to the servicing tech. Just some thoughts.

On the other hand, I would do just like he says, find another dealer, one who will take care of you.

Well, my baby has arrived. They gave me a new rebate form to sign, so the price is the same. At first I showed the salesman to the door, but it is a beautiful AV and the thought of going through all of the process all over again wasn't appealing. I got the vehicle for $1200+ under invoice. The salesman said that he didn't make a dime on it, but that it counts towards his numbers for the month, so he was happy with it.

Now I can sit in it in the driveway as I got to the registry a few minutes after they closed at 4:15. I'll have to go back in the morning.

I'll admit, Chief, that $995 for the woodgrain is greatly overpriced. I saw the kits online for under $300, so even your already grossly overpriced ~$850 number was below what they charged. I at least know that I got it for under invoice, so I feel good about that.

Thanks to everyone for their comments and suggestions. I compared this deal to others that I was working at two other dealerships and I believe that I beat the next closest by nearly $4000.

My strong advice - change the oil ASAP - no way of knowing if the dealer did or didn't do it. When I bought a demo in 1998 it had 7K miles on it and I found out AFTER I signed the paperwork it had never had it's first oil change done. Ahhh the things we learn through experience...

I did explain that and it seem to go no where. I then called Chevy as someone explained and Chevy then called the Serv mgr who gave me this crap to start with. The serv mgr actually told the chevy guy they may have broken it but can not be sure. The chevy guy confirmed it is not under warrenty but will talk to the district guy because a "a $300 part should not come between good customer swervice." He could not make any promises and will follow up with me on Wed, but he could not see a problem. All in all, I will wait and see what happens but am thus far impressed with Chevy. The dealer still sucks!

Excellent point.

I want to convert to synthetic anyhow. Since I *own* this vehicle (vs. lease) I want to be sure that it lasts a long time (well, as long as I can MAKE it last).

(y)

The saga is over. After calling Chevy, the same guy the service mgr who originally started this mess called ansd said the Chevy Rep was in and agreed with him that they would not cover it. But the serv. mgr said he talked it over with the guy as well as the owner and in the interest of "Good customer service" and the fact that my truck is always brought there for oil changes and is always clean and taken care of they will do it for free. But by doing this they are not admitting they broke it in any way and he hopes there are no hard feelings and that I will remember them in a good way when the survey comes out.

Glad it all worked out...but I'm betting that the rep was the one who told 'em to do it...the SA just doesn't seem like a "good customer service" type of guy. ;)

Here is another rant from a similar thread....

OK, so I need to vent a little. :8:

I went in on Saturday with the promise of $100 over invoice and the $4,000 rebate on an Arrival Blue Z71 w/ sunroof, full feature leather, trailer package, security and convenience packages. Invoice was $37,100.

Now we walked throught the 2 FEET of snow and the damn truck was nowhere to be found. "Oh, let me check with the manager," said the "Internet Sales Manager."

Turns out the real Manager now has it as a demo. Fine. It now has 750 miles on it, his son was using it to move furniture, and they all were smoking in it. NOT so fine. Oh and the real kicker was the Assist steps were $1,000. Yeah, that's right, $1,000!!!!
Do they think we are stupid? I mean I came in off the GMBuyPower site, so I know the steps are $395 installed by the factory. The Manager says "there is nothing I can do, they are installed at the factory, and it is $1,000."

Needless to say, I am looking at other dealerships now, and will never go back there. I just makes me mad that they get you in there, and make it sound like they are doing you a favor with the invoice price. Please, there are more than 25 dealerships within an hours ride of my house, and most of them do that discount. To get me that close and to then try to rip off an informed consumer? Morons.

Thanks for letting me vent. On the brightside, my local dealership is now looking for the one I REALLY want, and will match any dealer out there. Looks like I will be driving my new AV by next week!

Now, to start the mods list......

So TLwiz, don't be shy... tell us the name of the dealer, it might be worth a heads up for others in that area.

The bad dealer is Imperial Chevrolet in Milford MA. ?Never EVER shop there!!!

On a side note, the dealership I am going to use now (Diamond Chevrolet of Worcester) has had a very bad reputation on service, but a good sales reputation (make sense?) I plan to do most of my own servicing anyway. A friend just bought a demo from them, and they gave him $1 per mile on the odo, so he got $1400 bucks off for the mileage alone! Not a bad deal!

Thanks for the support. I look forward to experiencing what you all know in a few days!
