Hi. 2003 avalanche Bose sound . I bought a new double din pioneer head unit. I have a kappa 4ch amp to install and 4x kappa speakers to install in doors. I have located factory Bose amp. I’m thinking of simply removing the old head unit and disconnecting everything from it and not using the old head unit wiring at all, not using a metr . In other words, I’ll install new head unit , run power to it from battery with fuse , run new rca cables to new amp , remove old speaker cables from old amp and re-connect them to new amp. Run remote start from new head unit to new amp.

QUESTIONS:

I know I’ll lose the door beepers , does that really matter ? What else do I lose ?

the old factory system has tweeters up in the door frame. My new door speakers require full signal . Does the current wire to the current Bose door speaker have full signal or does it just have low mid and the tweeter has the highs . I’m hoping the current door speaker does indeed have full range with a cable from it , going to a basic crossover and on to the tweeter . If the current door cable only has low mid then where is the crossover located ?

Does the new head unit require a remote start cable input , in addition to constant 12v cable input , so that head unit comes on with the car. I guess that’s part of the current harness. How do I identify which cable it is and re use that cable ? ( I understand the head unit also has output remote start to amplifiers )

I am by no means a stereo or electrical guru but from all I know it's best to not try and bypass factory connections since in modern vehicles so many features are connected. If you don't have a custom stereo shop in your area that you trust for info or help you should contact by phone or email customer service at www.crutchfield.com they have done many AVs and can provide you the proper wiring harnesses and adapters for your needs to make it pretty much a plug and play install.

Crutchfield is definitely the way to go if you want to do the install. Their site makes it easy to set up the filters, and when you go to select a head that you like, they will offer the install kit you need to swap it over and tell you which features you'd lose with each kit and head unit combo.

Same goes for the speakers themselves. They make it easy to know how well a speaker will fit, offer adapter rings if needed, and tell you what modification might be required.

And if all else fails during the install, I've only heard good things about their customer support.

Speaker schematics attached. Output from amp is full range. GM has a habit of using frequency cutoffs in the wiring near the speakers (at least the tweeters), they wire tweeters in parallel with door speakers, and do not use real crossovers. Don't see the cutoffs specified in the schematic, but be aware.

Also attached are the head unit to factory Bose amp schematics
