New Exhaust On, Is K&N Filter Enough?

Well, I went with the Flo Pro muffler and 3" pipe with chrome tip. The sound is great! Really growls when you put your foot in it. But you can't really hear it at cruising speeds (55 to 70 mph). Perfect. When I am city driving, it really growls from 1000 to 2000 rpm then mellows out. So leaving a stop light or just turning corners is lots of fun.

However, I did notice it doesn't want to get up and go right away. I think it probably messed with my torque curve. So I probably should at least get a K&N filter. But I was hoping that is all I can get away with. I really don't want to put in a new air intake kit just yet. Has anyone gone with just the filter, and do you think this will be enough for a new exhaust? I am not looking for huge power gains yet. I just want to let more air through for this exhaust. Thanks, guys.

I have just the factory replacement K&N filter, but I modified the box to bring in more air. I also had a flowmaster 40 series installed this weekend and I love it. I attached a pic of the factory air box in my AV; its not the best as far a seeing everything but it gives you an idea of what you can do.

Yep, it's enough. I just put in the K&N filter and that cleared up the immediate hit issue. Know she moves right from the get go.

I took the advice of a friend of mine and disconnected the negative battery cable. He said this would reset the computer for the K&N and the new muffler. Well I am done for now. Maybe next year I'll go with the whole intake, but this is more than enough power and sound for me.

CO Z71 - do we get to hear this new exhaust on the CO cruise? :)

I installed a UPD intake with a K&N filter and never really thought of opening up the stock box for more air flow. Is that something I should think about doing or does it pull enough air the way it is? I didnt really examine the box when i had it opened up. I was wondering if someone could throw their $.02 my way. Also, I have a magnaflow muffler on the way. Anyone changing catalytic converters?
