New Members Say Hello & Post Here First

Hey all, just found the site and glad there is so much great info. I will need it since I picked up a 2005 1500 Avy on the cheap since the owner wanted to get rid of it after someone busted the passenger window and tried to steal it. They managed to get the column cover off and jiggered up the key cylinder so bad the key fits in but would not turn. Worse part was couldn't get in on position to remove the cylinder. Otherwise everything else looks good on the truck. We'll find out when I am able to get it started.

First success was being able do some picking and finally get the cylinder out and put in a new cylinder keyed to the current key. Turns one click and battery light comes on but won't turn any further and no other dash lights and no security light. Will have do some digging to find out if there is some sort of column disabler or other theft deterrent at play. If not will have to look into all the wiring to see if there was some damage I didn't see yet. Wish me luck.

Hello Folks! I'm Joe Voorhees. Just became a member today, 1/17/21. I own a Silver Birch 2006 Avalanche LTZ71 with 97,408 miles. I've had it since 2009. It has the cladding. I thought they all did until 2007. Tell me if I'm wrong. I need help. I can't seem to locate the fuel filter. Its supposed to be on the driver's side frame rail. I don't see it. Anybody? Thanks.

Cladded all in 2002
Cladded & WBH 2003 - 2006
No Cladding 2007-2013 only on sail and bed top.

Fuel filter in Tank on pump assembly Gm says no need to change.

fuel filter on frame rail only on 2002 and very few 2003.

Thanks, ygmn! It makes sense now. I saw one blog that backs up your assertion about the filter being in the tank with the pump. I think your right. My next task is possibly to replace the pump through the floor. Bad idea?

Personal preference. There are those here who swear by it and others who don't want to cut the floor. One word of caution, if vapors are escaping through the top it's not recommended as sparks from cutting the floor could ignite a fire

I agree with frito! Not only issue of fire or vapor fumes getting into bed or cab but you can't check fuel lines for rust or electrical connections if you cut a small hatch. Safest and best way is to take it somewhere with a lift and drop the tank and then you are set if other hidden issues develop while changing pump and filter etc..

Hello Everyone, I was a member before, but was not active and so my account was deleted.
I live in North Idaho and have a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche z71. I just replaced the engine, as I love the thing.

Hey guys! I’m new here, first timer!
I am the proud owner for a year now a 2005 Chevy avalanche regency! Had 155k when I got it. I think I got a good deal, 6800 plus ttl. Having a few issues with it, and was wanting to see what y’all thought.

Great site with lots if knowledge.
I have a beaten and well used 02 2500.
We live in northwest (ish) GA and mechanic in the yard..

Well it’s my turn, hello everyone
I can say proudly I’ve owned 4 Avi’s 2-2004, 1-2008, currently own a 2003 Z71 that has more options then my 2016 Z71 Silverado.
I found this site researching for an issue my truck came across. 250k and the engine light has been playing with me, on for a few days then off, back on for a few and off, what I’m noticing is it runs great under 2000rpm but acts like it’s getting to much fuel on top end, and my mpg has dropped.. I have not gotten a code checker yet but will next week.

Sorry no pics of any of them.

I sometimes have the same problem

Hello

I am from Alberta, looking to buy an Avalanche so will post in appropriate threads.

I guess I will add more.
Looking at the non plastic optioned 2003's, just hesitant on the IFS and coils. The 07's have a nicer look but more $.
Everything else is great, mid gate, shorter WB, suburban body on frame. One piece bed/cab unlike truck bed + truck cab.
Main thing is I kind of want to wheel every now and then, but also want to start a business, lawn care, decks, patio's and reno's perhaps.

Thanks

Hi All Love what I've seen so far of this Forum. I have a 2005 Z71. I bought the truck cheap knowing it would probably need an engine soon and I was right lol. Still a bargain at 2K. I had an overheating problem that was particularly troubling but turns out it was a slightly clogged radiator. Fixed thanks to some replies in one of your threads. Good Job, Thanks
I am new here also. Same join day. I just got a 03 Avalanche and fell in love with the vehicles. I also have some issues. Module for heated seats drivers side and blower motor fan assembly ( got ordered and on it's way) . Some minor things and it has 176k on it but runs really good. Worth fixing up and enjoying. Best of luck to you. Oh, by the way I got a kick out of the movie that is your forum name..

Welcome to the group. New here myself. Seems to be a very good group of folks here. I hope to learn a lot about the Avalanche.
