Hello everyone, just purchased a 2004 Red Av Z71. Needs a bit of love to bring it back up to tip top shape, but the body had very little rust and the engine still runs well.
Did you happen to have rocker rust? I had it on both sides, I cut it all out and put in some sheet metal and body filler and paintes the rockers black. Be sure to check your brake lines and trans cooler lines for rust. Had a brake line crap out on me so no brakes once and I see a lot of rust on the trans cooler lines so I will be replacing them very soon. Definitely switching to the 07 up front calipers and rotors to get more bite with the 35's and thinking about the coilover conversion.

Hey man, no there was very little body rust on the vehicle when I got it. Little bit on the rear drivers door pillar but the rocker panels are solid. Fortunately for me, I'm the Service Manager for a garage, so I have a team of guys that can help me out. They did a full once over on it and mechanically she is in great condition. Just have to repair the cluster and do some tidying up underneath.

Hey y'all. Been reading the threads for a while but new member. Proud owner of a pos 2003 Chevy Avalanche Z71. I have (and continue to) put way too much money into it but it's mine and I love her. Rusty as hell but getting better piece by piece.

Hey everyone, I have an 03’ Avalanche NFE that I purchased a few days ago. It’s my first Avalanche, I’ve been looking at them for a while and finally pulled the trigger. Needs an alignment and some of the steering components tightened up, but I’m loving it already. Excited to be apart of the Avalanche community.

Hello everyone. I’m new here but I own a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche and yes I had a shade tree mechanic attempt to fix my truck from oil leak and transmission leak. Well long story short he changed the valve cover gaskets put in new fuel injectors but now my truck doesn’t want to crank properly since. He says just drive it cause the computer has to set. But upon driving my truck start sputtering then he says trash in my line/ gas filter. So he states again just drive it which I did then 3 days later it started jerking into gear and started whining like it didn’t want to go in 3rd and 4th gear and yes I called him and I told him I don’t know what you’ve done to my truck but it’s worst now than before he touched her. Comes to find out there was no transmission fluid in my truck and I just had my oil changed at the shop and they checked off the level was good. Smh. I’m at a lost and after that he told me to go buy a transmission filter /gasket and he put them on and it’s still won’t change gears so it’s been sitting in my driveway cause all the transmission fluid has leaked out again just from sitting or he’s not sealing my new parts. Has Anyone else experienced anything close to this? I’ve learned never let someone that can’t warranty there work touch your property and it’s sad 😞 that we can’t help our own and get good result

Did you get the problem fixed? I know that when the trans gets low on fluid it will shift erratically and hard, if you put a new filter and gasket in it make sure it's completely full, sometimes you have to run it through the gears to get the fluid in the clutch drums, after that, check it again, they'll sometimes take another quart or two to get it full.

Hi there. Good to see so many AV fans. I'm certainly a huge fan. I'm doing a ton of modifications to mine. I might be of some use here if anyone plans on doing a turbo on their's I have an 03 Z71. Its in really great shape and has been loved in its life. Has some rust on the underside but not anything too concerning. I'm almost done putting a turbo kit on it. Its a precision 7675 with matching WG and BOV. Of course there are many other additions that go with that. If anyone has questions I can try to answer them. Good to he here

Sadly this is one of many horror stories I've heard about not giving adequate care. This has driven me over the years to do 99% of any maintenance and repairs myself. Hopefully n ok damage was done to your transmission.
