Hello everyone. I'm Tony. A new owner of a used Avalanche Z71. I knew it had issues, but my heart told me that it was meant for me to get it.
Welcome to the website!
Hope you have many happy and safe miles in your AV. Take some time to look around this site and you will find answers to most of your questions and problems in the designated sections.

Thank you. I have been browsing the forum. I have found out a lot of useful information already...

Question are other GM body parts, from other trucks, compatible with Avalanche Z71 1500 series?

Hello everyone, I'm relatively new here but I have a 2004 avalanche gray in color . Wearre the second owners and getting close to 179,000
miles and still runs great! I'm not real savvy with where to post things so bear with me. We're in Arizona and I don't know how to send a picture of the truck,. Looking for a good rear shock for hauling and just wonder if anyone has had experience with anyone in particular! thanks

A very "qualified" 'maybe'.. depends on several factors cladding or not.. model years, generally doors are usually similar enough, behind the cab is not (i.e. the tailgate is a totally different animal). A decent way to check is the "junk yard" website www.car-part.com..
List your vehicle, the part you are looking for (like a hood) and the results will show available parts that match / interchange and the vehicle they came from. If you are like me, once you use it (car-part.com) you can't live w/o it. It is very handy @ finding the "used parts" I am looking for, near me.

Hi all, been a member for a little while and thought I should learn how to post.
Got my 2003 Avy in September, 2002.
Was looking to get a end of the year deal when I saw mine in the lot late in the evening.Wife wanted black with sun roof. Well it looked black enough though dark grey metallic and had a sunroof. It does look best when it looks black! I didn't get a good end of the year deal but never sorry. Got over 130,000 on my cladded Z71 and still in love with my Avy and my wife! Just minor updates to keep her new (the Avy not the wife). LEDs, remote start, wireless phone charging, head unit with backup camera, Bluetooth, etc.. Biggest expense was finding and fixing oil leak. Fuel pump was the only time she got to ride on a tow truck (Avy again, not the wife).
Got the normal cai sorta. Drop in K&N with chepo tube to the tb with tb spacer. Dynomax turbo muffler and a Doablosport intune i2 to keep an eye it on things. As all of you here, built for me, not someone else.
Never seen a built Avy I didn't like, except the neglected ones!

This is not my profile this is my father's so technically not new, my father had an 03 4x4 5.3 1500 avy sold it shortly after a wreck that took out the front right fender, that jeep cherokee stood no chance and bounced off ( they ran a red) anyway my names Nick and have wanted an avalanche since I grew up in one, I now have a 2002 z66 2wd 5.3 paid $1000 with 267k miles I plan on fixing her back up to her former glory and maybe a 4wd swap in the future but even though she's beat up I can't stop driving this truck it's everything I have wanted for a long time I hope it's okay if I just piggy back on my dad's account since I'm new to the whole forum deal I put oem tails back on I dislike the leds and oem mirrors as I don't tow

Welcome Nick. Nice Avy . It looks much better with the oem tails and mirrors. Also I read one of the threads here that you can buy replacement vinyl seat covers, ready to install.
I think you should keep it 2wd z66, if you want 4wd then just buy a second Avy lol
I have a '04 z71 but I've always been fond of hot rodded 2wd trucks.

Those are NOT STOCK side mirrors.
PRevious owner put them on.

refreshed member, had to start new account. Used to be active when I bought my 2002 years ago and now just bought a 2005 as my 2002 has seen better days. So I have some thoughts that maybe you guys can help with.

My original 2002, Z71 4x4 1500, black with cladding was a family vehicle that I ended up purchasing from grandparents at 72k miles and now has 302k. Mostly highway, still original motor and trans but I have a very bad lifter squeal for the last 3k miles. To the point I sometimes get the check engine light to come on momentarily while on the highway so I have since stopped driving it except for around town. The real problem I have is that this truck is solid. It was originally a TX truck but has spent the last 10 years up in WI. Frame and body are still nearly rust free, just getting the first hints of body rust over the rear wheel well. I have rebuilt the front suspension, brake lines and all calipers rotors and serviced both axles in the last two years. I'm partial to keeping it and putting a crate motor in it but don't have the time for a while.

On to my 2005 I just bought for $3000. 210k miles, Z71 4x4 1500, blue/green with cladding. A northern vehicle so while the frame is in decent shape the underbody is rusting pretty bad. For example, I was going to pull the running boards from the 02 and put on the 05 but the 05 is too rusted to do anything with if I take off the originals. Overall, I can probably get 50k miles out of this truck without much effort so I'm good with that. Suspension and brakes need some service but nothing major.

Now that I have dug in further it seems that the 02 is a beast unto itself and minimal parts can swap between the two save for suspension/brakes etc. Seems 03 was the remake of the truck line as far as the interiors and electronics.

The big question: Is there any value in my original 02? I was looking at the for sale postings and someone wanted a shell last year so that would have been perfect for them. I could strip the parts I've put into the 02 suspension/brakes along with nearly new tires and know that I'm good on parts for the life of the 05. I just hate taking an AV off the road when someone might have the time and energy to put into it when I know she only needs a motor and is in such good shape.

Thoughts?

Only one picture has current setup, the one picture with the post covering the only missing cladding piece lol. I would never condone ruining the og look

I really wanna leave it a z66 and go with a turbo or a super build probably gonna go with a single turbo setup because it's cheaper I am very interested in a nasty turbo avy more so then 4wd because I'm in Florida worst enemy would be sugar sand was also thinking about strapping tesla motors to the front wheels and using the side boxes as battery storage

If you got a spare place to park it personally I'd do a light rebuild cam lifters rocker arms maybe an oil pump wore out motors take boost very well and 5.3s are tough even new lifter shed probably pur like a kitten but a cam kit with lifters is like $4-600

The going rate for all avalanches depending on 2wd 4wd 5.3 8.1 and overall condition is anywhere from 3 to 15k
