Hi All:

Well, just like I feared, the new midgate that the dealer installed (to fix the broken window holder "wheel") doesn't close properly.

I went through a search and found out how to close the midgate properly, but none of the posts really addressed my question directly. Thus the reason for this post.

Here is my main question: "Can the midgate be adjusted?"

The reason why I ask, is because when my truck was new, all I had to do was slam the midgate with one hand (in the center) and it completely latched. Now, one side latches completely (the passenger side) and the driver's side I have to push in with my palm to get it to completely latch. It wasn't like that before.

Can someone tell me where the adjustments are so that I can get my convenient, one-slam midgate back? I'm also concerned about the long-term reliabilty of a "mis-adjusted" midgate.

Thanks!

I understand your desire to get it normal on your own, but if it were me, I'd take it back to the dealer and tell them it's unacceptable. Explain, show, explain again, show two more times, and you should be able to get them to address it.

As a dealership tech, if something is not fixed correctly and we are not notifed, we think every thing is fine.

Take it back

I appreciate the replies, but it is a pain to drop the car off, and to be frank, I don't have a lot of faith in the diagnostic ability of dealers these days. It wouldn't be the first time I've fixed dealer's work. :)

I didn't say you'd have fun dropping it off again. But as painful as it is, you pretty much have to get it down on paper to be able to claim they aren't doing their job. If there's a issue down the road that can be traced to an event you brought in repeatedly under warranty, you have more leverage to get them to fix it (at their cost) after your warranty is over.

Plus, where you live, I bet you could go to another dealer and tell them, "Dealer X was supposed to fix this and didn't do a very good job. See how it's still screwed up? I don't trust them anymore, and if you can get this right, I'll bring my truck back to you guys from now on." If they don't want your business either, keep shopping, write GM, you know--all the standard stuff.

OR, if you still want to fix it yourself (and I know how you feel--I usually feel like taking care of it myself so that I know it's right), I'm sure someone will post soon if it can be adjusted. I was thinking that it might not be adjustable (the way the tailgate is), and that maybe they installed it wrong, in which case you'd want them (or another Chevy dealer) to do it over correctly.

Good luck!

Brendan

teksavy,

I think that taking it back does the dealer a favor.

We all make mistakes and need the opportunity to learn from them.

OK :9: I know.... I'm full of hot air (err... c**p).... but... they still need to fix it.
