New Option On 2003 Avalanche :(

Where did you find this?

This isn't really some kind of option is it?

I say again, "All seriousness aside" <grin>

This is just something someone sent me in an email one time.

I like dogs, so I wouldn't install it (even if it was real). ;)

I know what you mean, NJAV. After ten months and 11k + miles, I'm still parking in the back forty at every large parking lot I'm in. I also stay away from cart return areas. The only thing many of these do more poorly than driving is maneuvering a cart!
It's funny steel..the wife gets so aggrivated with me because of this and the fact that I make her walk a mile...but you know what I will be a lot more upset if I come back and see the Av with a scratch.... :B:

well GM took a survy and here are the results
With Body hardware 35% | Without Body hardware 65%

We should do our own survey!

I'd like to see one like this*, that we could send to the General, just to be sure that we will always be able to get the cladding:

* If the AV was ONLY offered without cladding, would you purchase it?
~ No chance, the cladding is a must.
~ I would consider it, but strongly prefer with the cladding.
~ Definitely- without cladding is the only way I'd buy.

If someone has some better phrasology, please make suggestions, or feel free to set up a poll! (y)

As for me... I might still buy one, as I love the AV,
but personally, I STRONGLY prefer the cladding!
I like the look and the protection!
(Plus, less metal to wax!) ;)

Seven

That's exactly what we do. The thing that irritates us is when we come back to the "North Forty" and find somebody parked right next to us, when there's tons of open space! :7:

LOL...why is that txyank?...I've been trying to figure the logic behind that myself....what is their motivation?...to just piss you off...or was the other 500 spaces available to lonely for them?.... :B:

My quess is that their little car couldn't break the gravitational pull of the AV. ;D

Kinda like getting sucked into an aurora-borialus....lol...you check in but not out... ;D :B:

I figure they take a look at my truck and decide it's a safe place to park. At least one side will be protected. If I can't find a wide open area I'll try to park next to one that looks well taken care of. Never parked next to an Av. I don't think you folks stop driving them long enough to park! ;)

LOL... you'd have to leave a spare spot in between two parked av's else neither of you could open your doors, but you don't want to leave enough of a space that a ricer can fit in there 'cos sure as heck you'd walk all the way back to the back 40 and find someone has squeezed in between you both.

My $.02

I bought the av because of the plastic. Otherwise, I would have just bought the GMC Denali. The lack of door dings, the lack fo dinging others, and the overall look are assets to me.

I hope they keep the plastic as an option for at least a while. :)

I agree, another thing I liked was the versitility, but the extra cladding was the eventual deal-sealer!

Will I be a snob to those WBH, no. The caldding is my preference and I will be sad to see it go. Others will find wild ways to dress up their av.

One thing that makes me laugh a little though, some people I talk to say that they would not buy the cladding for large-scale farm/construction use because of the caldding. Being an old farm boy myself, I would never buy an Av for mainly "aroung the back 40" use, but more for my tow/show vehicle. I'd keep my old 1 ton dually for that - it's already broken in (aka add more dents to the collection!) In short, I do not think the Av was designed for industrial use - that is what the HD line for trucks is for!

I've got to agree with you. I love my AV because of the cladding. My next AV will have the cladding as well. Like you said no worry about door dings etc. I was hit by some unidentified person, causing minor damage compared to what coud have happened if it were metal!!

Thank god for cladding!!! I feel my AV is protected!!

LONG LIVE CLADDING...

Yeah, seeing an AV without cladding will take some getting used to, but so did seeing one with at first. I think it will be interesting to see one with the soft covers in back and wheel flares.

I wonder if they are just for looks or are they able to cover some serious rubber when you upsize your tires?

IMHO, I really, REALLY like the WBH option, if for no other reason that it gets rid of the squared-off wheelwell look of the avalanche. My prediction is that chevy will sell a whole lot more avalanches with the WBH option, than not. Obviously, everyone has different tastes, and I by no means want to offend anyone, but the fact that Chevy went through the trouble to develop the WBH package clearly indicates that they are listening to the public and the press, who have been openly critical of the over-abundance of gray plastic lower body cladding. Before the WBH, I couldn't get past the looks of the truck, but now I can't wait to buy one! :B:

Hello, I just registered here today, and wanted to reply to the WBH option. I would have looked at an Avalanche alot sooner had the cladding not been on the truck. When I first saw it, the cladding screamed "cheap" to me, an opinion shared with alot of my friends and relatives I talked to about it (almost like the Ford Escape type plastic).

What got me to test drive an Avalanche was the versatility, and the fact I have two young kids I need to travel with. What amazed me was shear joy of driving the vehicle.... the ride, the interior.... all screamed anything BUT cheap. Back in August when I took the test drive, I came real close to buying it, but the lack of desired options on the dealer inventory stopped me, plus I caught wind of the WBH option coming out.

When I finally saw what the WBH looked like, I was both impressed and disappointed. Impressed because I like the truck w/o the cladding; disappointed because the front end is the Silverado. One thing for sure, the truck no longer cries "cheap" to me anymore, and although I'd prefer the front end stay more like the traditional Av, it's something I'll get over.

With the 2003, the darker cladding is much better looking, and I can understand it's advantages for preventing door dings and off-roading. I'm just glad Chevy is coming out with the WBH option to meet my personal taste.

Now, if only there were some more pics somewhere other than that red one on chevrolet.com!!

Chevy did a very smart thing with the Avalanche...in offering it without the body armour....more appeal and overall customer interest.....expect to see more and more WBH Av's on the road as they become available.... :B:
