Hello all,

There was a big "Car Toys" sale in Denver a while back, where I picked up a great little gadget that works very well in the Av. It is an Infinity Basslink self-contained sub. 10" woofer, 10" passive radiator, 200W Class D Amp, high-level and RCA inputs, variable Xover settings, etc. Size is 10"x12"x14". It works with the factory head unit or a future upgrade. All for only $199.

I installed it directly behind the center console. I added only a 10"x14" carpeted board to the floor to provide a level mounting surface, and bolted the sub to that with removeable thumb screws. Tapped into the unused power wires for the passenger seat (already fused for 35A), and for now tapped into the rear speakers for signal.

Sound is AWESOME for such a small package. I've been a fan of Infinity Reference Series for a while, and this lived up to Infiniti's name. And with intermdiated wiring "quick connects" for wiring, I can uplug and unscrew it in less than 2 minutes. Then I get full use of the midgate. I've fabbed up an "extension cable" that I can use to power the sub when the midgate is down and it is sitting in the bed.

I'll be adding pics soon so that you can see for yourselves (my camera doesn't have a flash and it's dark). What do you guys think?

I think WE need pictures! :)

Is this similar to the Bazooka line of products?

Let me know if you need someone to host your pictures...I still have room left on my webserver!

The "concept" is similar to Bazooka, but I wouldn't even put them in the same category. I've always shied away from the "self-contained" sub due to having to suffer listening to Bazooka's in a former friends car. These sound MUCH more respectable. Nice clean power, very tight bass, rugged construction, versatile connection options. You can see images and reviews at:

I plan to get images up tomorrow on my web site, and I'll post links here as soon as they are up.

Hey! Couldn't these be mounted on the midgate itself facing the front of the cab? Only 8 inches in height....I got to figure this out.

Thoughts?

I'm presuming that C-Rod is refering to mounting them on the back-side of the mid-gate. For me, that would be about as inconvenient as where I mounted mine, as every time I drop the mid-gate, it is because I need that space, and anything mounted to the surface would be in the way (though you could easily disconnect them).

I have pics posted at:

Let me know what you think!

Oh, and BTW, I did look at those Kenwood "Woox" (SP?) a while back as well. Someone else on this forum has them installed as I recall.

But when I demo'ed them, I wasn't very impressed. The Basslink setup, while larger, offers TONS more sound volume, at a better quality no less.

Add to that the Kenwood (if you bought a pair, which you really need to do for any sound quality) are quite a bit more expensive than the Basslink was.

Not to say the Kenwoods suck or anything, just the Basslink seems to be better "boom for the buck".

C-rod I don't get it :cautious: ?How would you be able to properly fold down the midgate with the subs mounted to it?

My bad...I need to put the crack pipe down. :-[

I was thinking that there would be enough clearance. I hate to admit this here but.....Up until this evening, I NEVER put the midgate down.

Oh well....

That box does look pretty good. Well, here is my thought for a sub location: how about mounting a small box with a sub in the spot where the REAR console folds out of the rear seats? It wouldn't be the most comfortable place for person to sit, but the hardwear is allready there from the console to bolt it down. The seats would still be able to fold and the midgate open. The only BIG problem I see is the space, I dont' know if you could mount a sub and have enough airspace. Any thoughts?

Sorry I wasn't too clear.... ?REMOVE the rear fold down console and mount it in the "hole"

I think you may be on to something! I haven't inspected that area very well. Seems like we might be able to fabricate something that would fit in that location. I would be hesitant to put an active woofer in that location because of the heat it may generate but a custom box with matching material hooked up to a class D amp under the seat with a remote gain control in the cockpit might be cool!

I am going to look into this one! ;D

Interesting idea to replace the REAR console. Hadn't thought of that. I wouldn't think you have a lot of volume to work with there, but who knows. I would certainly be stealthy!

As for close-ups of the mounting screws and whatnot, I'll try to get that for you guys tomorrow. It really was simple, though. Take the stock metric mounting screws to Ace Hardware, find the same screw, only shorter (2 1/2") and with a "thumb screw" head. Find the corresponding key nut (nuts with big "fangs" you drive into the woods surface) for the back-side of the mounting plate, a regular nut for halfway up the threads of the screw as a "stop point" against the bracket when you screw them down, and you're done.

Two things I learned about the fastener screws and nuts: One, make the hole through the mounting plate as close in size the the OD of the key nut as your can so the bolt lines up easier, and two, file or grind the threads off the end of the thumb screw in a tapered fashion. These two things make lining up the screw and nut MUCH easier.

That said, I would like to go to a auto-parts store that auto-body shops use or a dedicated "fastener" store (I hear there's one in Denver) and find the same bolt, but with a large, plastic knob for getting a better hold of the screw. Kinda like the one's on the air cleaner of my car... (Hmm, maybe if I traded for those..., nah)

I'm looking at this sub too.  Wondering how people still feel about the Infinity Basslink and the new basslink II?  Enough BOOM BOOM for a factory add on?

Thinking of keeping facotry HU, debating on upgrading all the door speakers, and adding one of these powered subs.

Although I dont know how the basslink or the bigger basslink II would fit into the AV

With a very rough and quick measurement under the rear seats at best it seems we 8-1/2" at the front of the seat down to 6" at the rear of the seat, and only have about 9-1/2" of clearance between the metal and molded plastic seat bottom across.

The basslink II fits just fine in the rear. I have mine mounted behind my rear console. Since i hardly ever fold the seats down. Gives the Bose the bass it needs
