Newbie Mod Questions - K&N Vs. UPD And Seat Mod?

Hey Guys,

Kinda new hear so go easy. =)

The first mod I did to my z66 was the K&N kit. As soon as I put the kit in my engine made a low pitch hum or reverb sound when the truck was cruising at low RPMs.

When I'd floor it, it sounded like it was trying to suck the hood in the filter.

After I got the exhaust (bullet) the sound problem was cut in half, but it's still annoying.

Anyone else have this prob? Does the UPD version not do this?

Also, what is the seat mod? I assume it has something to do with the POS headrests, but can someone fill me in.

Can I reccomend a "How To" section with detailed explanation and instructions for each mod written by the originators?

Anyway, I look forward to more participation here.

GG

My Mods include:

K&N Kit, Bullet Exhaust, Hypertech Programmer, Pro-Comp Spindles, Weld Wheels and 285/70/16.5 tires.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the welcome.

So I guess that I'm not alone with the K&N prob?

Can anyone tell me if the UPD gives similar perfomance results?

Also, I trashed my stock stuff, what will I need to run the UPD kit?

I own a graphics/silkscreen biz as well as a small Billet Products company. Let me know if I can be of assistance.

The UPD and K&N rectangular filter are what you need (if you want the UPD) I feel it has a throaty growl at idle and an angry dog growl at WOT...just my .02 but it woke my Av up! If you have the rectangular K&N you are halfway there. :B:

I am very happy with the performance, sound, look, and price of the UPD units w/ K&N. It combines really well with my Flomaster 40 series.

The seat mod I think youre talking about is the removal of the rear headrest. Basically you take the headrests all the way out (by inserting the tip of a pen or something similar in the little notch on each side) then you file the last notch to look like the rest. It allows you to remove the headrests for an easier fit when folding down the midgate.
It's a must for me cause I'm going to mount an amp on the underside of bench.

What kinds of graphics and billet products do you deal with? Anything that can be put on the Av??

Hey,
Welcome aboard. ya, the ol' UPD does make it Growl.
Ain't it GREAT! (y)
I have to agree with silversport, it wakes your AV up.

I have the K&N FIPK, Flowmaster 50 series, and Hypertech progamming on 2002 AV Z71 and I have never noticed a hum just a real throaty exhaust note.
