Nitrous Avalanche?

Has anyone installed a Nitrous Oxide Kit to their Avalanche. There are numerous kits on the market and i was thinking about purchasing a lower end horsepower kit but i am scared a little as if it would cause any engine damage :cautious:

I'm not to swift about juicing a 5.3 on a 6,000 pound truck. Your talking a large load on that small block. If the truck lost 1500 or so, that's different. My buddy's Lighting has a 100 shot and some work on his truck. He's tipping the scale at 4,600. He's running 12.06 on street tires. Now that is moving it!!!!

Yeah, I think it will do engine damage.

With a proper kit the 5.3L engine can do quite well up to 150 shot - the biggest problem will be the 4L60E transmission and the rear end. The key is to make sure that your fuel add is correct and synched with it and that your plugs are correct.

Nitrous will not do any engine damage if installed and is used properly. The misunderstanding about nirtous is that no matter what you do you will melt your pistons, not true. If you have a nitrous controller and an msd window switch you will be fine. A 150 shot is about the limit on the 5.3. Nitrous makes power because it is an oxidizer and it mixes with the fuel to atomiz it. This makes for a nice cool dense charge of air an fuel. If you retard your timing and have the window switch set so it does not over rev and destroy your engine. The window switch also helps from kicking in the nitous too soon at low rpm so you do not burn the tires off the line.

if you follow the manufacturer instructions, stay between 100-150 hp, make sure you have ample fuel pressure. you should have no problems and it wont damage your engine. just dont excede 15 seconds on the bottle and keep your engine in good runing condition. just beware of transmission & rear end
i blew up 2-trannies (boy that sounds bad) and shredded 2-rear ends. (on my t/a) but it sure was fun!!!!! also be prepared for the expense of refills.

thank you everyone for your feedback on nitrous oxide for Avalanche. along with your answers, i now feel it is a safe mod. if used correctly and set up correctly as most of you said. Presently i am going to be dealing with the folks at www.bullydog.com for the proper kit and their instruction use on it also. (y)

It seems as though the common problem with the 5.3L....not problem..but rather setback..is the tranny and the rear like Gandolphxx mentioned above...what I wouldn't do to have the 4L85E....... :C:

i put a nitrous express kit on my av and it worked really good for about the first 20lbs of nitrous and then it killed my torque converter. i was spraying 150 hp on stock everything except jba headers and 3.5" cat back exaust. the fix to this problem was i bought a high proformance torque converter from hughs transmissions and now i dont have any problems. i have run a total of 160lbs of nitrous through the motor and not had one problem!

The Nitrous Express system is by far the most popular kit that we carry for the GM trucks. It includes jetting for 35, 50, 75, 100 and 150hp. This will allow you to spray nitrous and the proper amount of fuel into the motor. You will need to do a plug change when running nitrous. The NGK TR6s are a good way to go if you are using nitrous or a supercharger.
