I have a 2005 avalanche that I've been trying to figure out mystery problem.. few months back i discovered engine had a lout noise coming from it and there was no oil pressure.. replaced oil pump and gave it new oil filter and oil.. sound went away but no oil pressure is still reading with low oil pressure warning... changed oil pressure sensor problem still reads the same.. haven't tested to see if it in fat has no pressure yet.. also checking the gauge to see if its faulty.. and other ideas of what it could be or anyone else experience something similar... also like to note when engine is revved it starts to go up but once let off goes back down

Oil pressure is a product of resistance to flow inside the engine.

If the bearing surfaces inside the engine are worn out or otherwise damaged, even a new oil pump will not be able to show consistently higher oil pressure.

I am assuming a new oil pick-up tube o-ring was installed with the new oil pump.

As you rev the engine, the oil flow increases and the resulting oil pressure will rise as the oil meets the resistance against the bearing surfaces.

Once the increased flow slows, the oil pressure will drop.

On a healthy engine, the drop will be much less than in a worn out engine.

Before I would throw in the towel on this engine and go for a rebuild or replacement engine, I would verify the actual oil pressure.

Also, what brand oil filter did you use?

Some lower tier oil filters have been known to cause lower oil pressure issues.

On my higher mileage engines, I still use the 5W-30 oil I've always used and I use NAPA (WIX) Platinum oil filters.

Any top name brand of oil and filter should be fine.

Give those a try and see where you are.

Just try to stay away from store brand and lower tier FRAM filters.

I had a problem with my oil pressure sensor. It cost me 15 bucks for a cheap one. 6 months later it did the same and I replaced it with the 20 dollar version and it been good ever sense.
