Coolio. The Av has a whopping 280 miles on it now (got it Friday). Anyhoo, I have noticed under normal acceleration that there is a slight hesitation or dip in power when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd. None of the other shifts do this (they are all smooth). The feeling is almost like driving a manual when you let up on the gas to shift. Just momentarily, but a slight hesitation.

Is this normal? I never experienced it on any other automatics I have ever driven. But then, I have never owned a big ass Chevy before (or dodge or ford for that matter)! ;)

Thanks.
Nate

Mine is just the opposite. Under easy to normal accel. mine will snap your head back. If I just floor it, it shifts normally. I'm dropping it off Thursday to have it checked out.

Nate, I think you have discovered "torque management" - this is where the computer shuts down the engine to smooth out the shift - it is very complicated.

You may want to have your dealer check it out in any case.

Thanks G!

In addition to taking it to the dealer, is there any place you know of I can read more about this? I like to learn.

Thanks again.

Nate

My Av only did this once...right away I got that hot report card feeling when you were a kid and brought home an F to your parents....

I got a little nervous but since that one time It has never done it again...so we'll see..

GM is aware of the shift problems on the 4L60-E transmissions. I read it today at the tech link so there will be a fix.

Shafman - what "tech link" are you referring to?

Thanks.

Nate

Nate,

I have seen this problem as well. when shifting from 1st to 2nd sometimes it is a little clunk like when you shift from park to drive. I dealer said that there were no transmission codes listed. did say that the fluid was down 1 qt. That was at 3k when I brought i fo oil change. I think it has something to do with the torque managment as well. I am going to bring mine back in.

Thanks guys. It hasn't been as noticeable the last few days. There is no clunk luckily. Just sort of a longish hesitation. I only have 450 miles on it now so if it continues I will take it to the dealer. At least I now understand a little better about what is going on.

Being new to GM, there are a whole lot of new *strange* things I have to learn. Seems like all the rules I know about other cars that are universal are not necessarily true about GM.
