David,

I'm on the notification list, just sitting here waiting....

Fred

Sorry for the delay guys...I've been out of touch for the last month or two finishing up some night classes. Just started visiting the site again regularly a few days ago.

Do you all have any ideas/suggestions for a cruise route? Was thinking of something that would end up at either Jordan or Falls lake so we'd have room and could picnic/cookout/etc. Maybe in May or early June. What do you think?

David

OK, here goes let me know what you all think of this plan:

Location: Meet at Jordan Lake Rec. area
Date: 6/15 or 6/22 or 6/29
Time: 11:00am

Cruise Route:
1. West on US 64 to Pittsboro.
2. North on US 15 through Chapel Hill.
3. Continue on US 15/510 across I-40 North through Durham to intersection with US 70/I-85/Durham Freeway
4. Take Durham Freeway (147) South to I-40.
5. Take I-40 East to Raleigh.
6. Take exit 289 (Wade Ave.) to 440 Beltline.
7. Take 440 Inner Loop around Raleigh.
8. Take US 1/64 exit (293) South.
9. Take US 64 West exit 128B.
10. Take left into Jordan Lake Rec. area.

After the cruise we could have a cookout/picnic. They have nice areas for cooking and plenty of parking.

How does this sound...Reply to me here or at dwilson7@nc.rr.com.

Help me out here, I'm kind of new to this vehicle affection thing. Up to now I've pretty much just considered vehicles transportation. Sort of a more expensive and faster horse.

Now that I have my Av I find my weekends devoted to applying letters, screwing in mudflaps and polishing more than any other vehicle I've ever owned.

Why exactly do we do this "cruise thing?" How do I sell the wife on spending a whole Saturday doing this?

But I should be able to get some awesome pictures to post.

Thanks
Fred in Cary

Fred,

Well, welcome to the world of the certified car (I mean Avalanche) nut ;D The idea behind a cruise/meet is the same as with any other car/truck club, to get together with people who share the same affection for the vehicles as you do, make friends, have a good time (and good food) hopefully. Its a great way to meet other owners who can be a wonderful source of information about mods, solutions to problems, most anything.

As far as selling the wife on the idea, wouldn't think it would be hard since this would be intended as a family event. I know my wife would like the chance to have a nice cookout/picnic at the lake (even if we were all talking about our Avalanches). So what do you think?

David,

Sounds like it's worth a shot, only concern now is if I can afford to talk with other fans. It's been tough getting the mods I have through the finance committee. Seeing everyone else's will just make me want them too. ;)

Count me in depending on when we're doing it. If we're free we'll be there.

Fred

Fred,

I know what you mean, I doubt I can afford to either. I haven't done any yet, but have a ever growing list that I want to get done (Whipple SC, exhaust, TBS, etc.) but don't know when I'll be able to.

When would you vote for having it? Seeing as it's already the end of May, probably wouldn't want it any earlier than the 6/29 date that I originially proposed, but maybe sometime in July would be better. I'll need to start working the dealerships with brochures, etc. and have enough time for them to help get the word out. Let me know when you think would be a good date.

David

Actually, I think a lot of folks have plans throughout the summer. Maybe we should plan for something after school starts, say mid-September? That way everyone is back from summer vacation but the school year has not yet had a chance to takeover every weekend.

Although if it's just 3 of us it may be easier to coordinate. :6:

Fred

Fred,

You know, September does sound like a good idea (heatwise as well as peoples vacations, etc.) As is happens, we are going to be in FL the 3rd week in Sept. (14th-22nd including travel), so it would need to be either the 7th or 28th. That would also give us more time to get more support from local dealerships, etc. and hopefully it would definitely be more than just you, Bob, and myself.

Did some initial checking about reserving a spot a Jordon Lake, and I didn't realize they charged so much. $75/day for picnic shelter, and $4/vehicle... So, we might want to think about other alternatives as well. I also saw that it may be possible to get just 2 or 3 tables (instead of a shelter) for $20-$25, in case we decided to go ahead with it there. Falls lake has the same fees, so any ideas you guys might have for alternative locations would be appreciated.

David

Let's shoot for 9/28. That will give us enough time to get the word out to Sir Walter, Bobby Murray, Hendrick, and the other local dealers.

Do I hear any Nays? Speak now or.....well you know.. ;D

Helloooooo... ???

David...? :(

Fred...?

Bob...? :6:

ANYBODY in NC? :3:

Did you guys all drive your AVs into the lake?

WHERE ARE YOU??

:0: MAYBE YOU ARE ALL JUST BUSY! :cautious:

At any rate, Hi there! Dave here-
I lived in Raleigh from '90 thru '01-
moved back to Ohio to take care of my Dad.

Anyway, wife & I get back to Raleigh 2 or 3 times per year!

Would love to do your cruise, but I seriously doubt that we can make it in Sept.

I might be doing a show in Hickory in October...
(I'm a Wood Artist.)

We will definitely be passing through (might stay a day or 2 or 3) in November!

So, if you all decide to get together,
please let me know!

Thanks!

Sounds like a great idea. Count me in. You may want to pick one of the many low key places in the area. Anyone have suggestions? Heck, there are too many parks to choose from. Of course if it's only a few of us we could meet at Char Grill parking lot for a quick bite and some chat the first time!

maxine, if you let us know when you are heading to Charolette, maybe we can head that way for a dinner or something..  Closest thing to you is either heading down to the Atlanta area, or over this way to the Winston Salem area..
