NY To CA And Back!

I just came back for a cross-country trip from NY to Los Angeles, CA. I took the interstate 40 which I believe is the old Route 66. Anyways I had ample amount of distance to monitor the fuel economy of my 8.1L Av. The average speed of 75mph, 6 mph crosswinds, my mpg was 14-15 through most of the states...New Mexico and indiana I averaged about 16-17...almost if not always getting over 500 mile to the tank. My main concern was the truck no being able to take a full tank of gas each time...which may have threw a glitch in the mpg estimates.

Wow. Your 8.1 gets what my 5.3 gets !! I gotta check my mpg again.

Well I saved a bunch of money by putting a full size mattress in the back and sleeping at rest stops...slept like a baby...very comfortable...and there was 2 of us. The factory window tints and rear bed lamps are a great feature when rummaging in the back a night. Most ot the states have really clean, well equipped rest-stops...now if I can only figure out how to hook up a port-a-shower to the Av.... No pix...just a stock looking 2500 4X4 in Indigo.

Oh I forgot to mention that the only mods on the Av is a replacement K&N and Magnaflow muff. The Direct Hits is next...kind of wary about the superchips mod

I use the rest stops also but to make sure it is a peaceful rest I have had a mag sign made up that states Warning K-9 Unit.Not sure if it keeps the bad guys away but I sleep alot better.The sign is about 5"x 30" and cost less than $20 to have made up.The sign shop should be able to find a mag stock that matches your AV and it slips off in the am.

This is great! I have no doubts that it keeps the car prowls to a minimum!
