I've got a 2002 z71 , i have a code that's been popping up, not bad i just haven't had the time to fix it, i just reset it with my code reader. I went to do it today and the reader wouldn't work, i figured maybe it took batteries, no batteries. I concluded it was finally dead for whatever reason. Just now i decided to try it in my car, the moment i plugged it in, it turned on, tried it again in the truck, absolutely nothing. I've used it in the truck a million times and never had had an issue, nothing has changed with the truck since the last time probably last week i plugged it in. The 5 wires going into the back of the plug seem to look fine and the 5 pins in the plug are all the way forward. I stumped as to what it could be, is there a fuse? I'm in quite a pickle because i have to clear it out to get it smogged next week before my tag expires ( you automatically get failed if there is a check engine light on) and i have no way of doing that now.

So I'm having a similar issue, I checked and the 15 amp was blown so I switched it out with what I had on hand which was a 20 amp. Used the OBD once then next day go to use it again, 20 amp is blown. From there all i have is a 25 amp so i put that in, run the OBD and then sure enough, next day the fuse is blown again.

I know this fuse runs the cig lighters as well but are there any electrical wizards out there that have seen something like this before?

you sir have a short somewhere.

Keep putting larger sized fuses in there and you will eventually find your short.

NOoooooooooo could cause fire.

Check the wires in that circuit.

It was a joke.

Thanks ya'll! I figured that was the case just was hoping for an easier solution. I did unplug the cig lighter and phone charger in the meantime and that seems to keep it alive for now.
