Off The Line

what needs to be done to my 1500 Avalance to get it off the line faster.

Come on folks, give him a break.

There are a number of things you can do.
1. FIPK
2. Exhaust
3. Headers & wires
4. Supercharger + ...

Check some of the previous threads here, and check my web site for options.

PM or post specific questions, also what gears do you have, 2wd or 4x4? >:D

Let's not forget the ole torque converter and tranny mods....good to lay down the rubber upon lauching.. ;D

Well the biggest improvement you will get for your buck will be to replace the 3.93 gears for 4.10 if you currently have 3.93s. ;) rear end gear replacments are are sure fire way to get big improvements OF THE LINE!! In my car I put an M5 3.91LS unit in place of my stock 3.64. MAJOR quick!

Look in junk yards for a Chevy 4.10 Suburban/Tahoe/Avalanche and replace the WHOLE diff. Much easier than just replacing the gears. and actually cheaper (labor).

teking, g-man, etc. - how tough is it to swap out the 3.83 for the 4.10 - for a guy who can do a clutch in under an hour?

performance mods on my mind . . . . . looking up my local chapter of "modders anonymous" to see if there's a meeting tonight

Actually 3.73 ;D

The swap is expensive.

LOL!!! Damn I've got too many different ratios to remember!!! 02 AV, 98 M3, 93 850, 86 Gran Wag ...

Gandolphx is correct 3.73, but I'd have to disagree with the cost issue. Get a whole diff from the junk yard and have it installed ... do it yourself ... and don't buy new. If you can change a clutch in an hour then swapping out a diff will be a walk in the park. Now if you swap only the GEARS then that is a WHOLE different issue. Much harder ... and more expensive. I'd go with the diff swap.

Price a used 4.10 diff then look up under your truck .... I'll bet my next pay check you'll be plesantly surprised!! But remember cost is relative .... what one thinks is expensive another may not.

So is that the only thing I can do is swap out the gear. I've got a 3.73 ratio and the only Performance mod I did to the truck is to put a UPD intake on. I've got a vortec 5300 V8 ( 5.3 V8 ) what else can I do? :2:

The gear swap is north of $1600 on a 4x4, Interesting to rebuild from a junker, but may require skills that are not obvious. ;D

There are many other ways to get it moving, I listed a number previously, headers, exhaust, wires, HPP3, torque converter upgrade and shift kit - actually this last pair has been quite an eye opener, really like the combo of a 2600 stall + Transgo. >:D

Hey g,
What kind of $$$ are we talking on the TC and the trans-go? This may be next after the headers and wires, all in prep for the Whipple-i-zation!!! ;D

One other question, do you think my wife would mind if I gave her a Whipple for Mothers Day? >:D

About $1600 for the TC, Transgo and differential checkout - best bucks spent.

I would give her the intercooler, then she can give you the SC for fathers day. Should work, someone once told me "never give a woman something that plugs in for Mothers Day, Christmas or birthdays", that was right after I bought my better half a Shop Vac for her birthday. >:D

Its not a question of what You can do.., its a question of when will You Stop doing...., lol.... You can always go the Cheap route.., and put Nitrous on it... You push Button..., You go like Hell..... ;D

seems like my avalanche thats equipped with the traction assist feature doesnt let if take off the line that good, just when the wheels start to spin the traction assist kicks in

There may be some confusion here, your locker is doing exactly what you want, one rev spin and the driver side kicks in - perfect. For what it is worth the ideal launch would have no spin, just move it. The spinning tires at the water line are to heat them up and clean them off so that they won't waste any power on the green light. >:D

Hey Gand...next best thing would be to install a catapoult at the line...this would take care of any spinning issues.. ;D
