Offset Steering wheel position - ergo flaw?

I test drove a Z71 AV today - wow! The one thing that I noticed was how the steering wheel is offset to the RIGHT about 1 to 2 inches. Has anyone else out there noticed this at all? How about other AV owners?
I have see this same offset in my S10 (lesser degree) and in a friend's Silverado. This offset sorta bugs me. Means that I have a slightly longer reach on my left arm versus right when holding the steering wheel.
Makes one wonder if this is the result of a more than 1 group of designers at GM working on different parts of the interior.......

i think the GM builders/ designers must have one arm that is shorter than the other. both my AV's suffered from that very same thing. i just had to go back to the dealer to get them to "center" the steering wheel. after that i had no more problems.

Many of us noticed this early on. It was annoying in the beginning, but after a couple of weeks I no longer noticed it. In fact, I had forgotten about it entirely until I read saw Chevyfan2's post.

My steering wheel is OK, waag gives you some shims for the front bar and instructions say you might need them because the truck body may not be centered exactly on the frame. I didn't have to use the shims. Seems related to me ?

...if you think about the way that many people drive, it may even make sense that the steering wheel is offset to the right a little....

<INSERT MENTAL PICTURE HERE> Driving down the highway, RIGHT HAND on the steering wheel, LEFT ARM on the door armrest/window sill/out the window/etc <END MENTAL PICTURE HERE>

....in this scenario, it makes sense a little anyhows that the steering wheel is more to the right hand side.

Granted, this is not played out in all cases, so its just MY explanation :2:

For those who do not think it is offset...

Look at the center of the steering wheel versus the center of the seat....while you are not in it...

the steering wheel is towards the center of the truck....and I am sure GM did some sort of ergonomuc study as to why they put it there

I'm betting it was a fiscal study. Probably saved GM a buck or two per vehicle vs. centering it! >:D

I haven't noticed it with bucket seats. I always assumed it was centered to the seat. With a bench seat it was always "offset" for me because I sit closer to the door. With buckets you pretty much have to sit in the middle of the bucket. Unless of course you have one cheek that's smaller than the other. >:D
Anybody take their wallet out of their pocket when they drive any great distance? I don't, but Back Dr.'s say it's a good idea.
