Oil and AFM

I own 3 avalanches, 03, 04 and 13LTZ. Had the 03 and 04 for about 8 years with minimal problems but I live in mass and the frames are junk on them. I went to fl last year to get this 1 owner 13 and there have been some problems but the one for this thread is on the oil. I know there are a lot of posts on here about this already but was looking for the most up to date info. I had an oil pressure sensor go last year when towing a snowmobile trailer, oil pressure was around 20 and when my mechanic changed the oil said the level looked good and the sensor was the issue. Now a year later (with one oil change between) I hooked up the trailer again and got the same oil sensor code. Drove the truck a few days after and yesterday the pressure dropped to about zero and I shut it down right away. Pulled over and checked the oil and it was non existent on the stick. Looked and it’s been about 3k since my last oil change (I do them every 5). I am now very concerned that it’s not just “burning a little oil” that towing makes a little worse. I tow that trailer 7 hours each way to maine multiple times a winter. I will have the oil changed today and see just how low it is but it’s got to be Atleast 2 quarts. Will deleting the AFM significantly reduce this issue? What methods have people found success in doing so (I see a few options)? The truck is in very good condition with about 90k on it, I would hate to have to put a motor in it but the whole point in having it is to tow where I want to so if I can’t do that limping it along is pointless. Any info on what you did with the AFM and results is appreciated!

As
a member since 2011 I'm sure you are familiar with the older posts about oil usage and AFM discussions. Many of those threads have rather current info, photos and opinions on what to do so i would NOT discount reading those threads for ideas and solutions to your problems.
Problem with any used vehicle is not knowing it's true history on accidents/flooding and maintenance etc. So even though you treat the AV well there is no telling what has happened to the AV before you got it.....Good luck in your search for a solution.

I have been scrolling through. It was a 1 owner who is a family friend that babys vehicles. Has a bunch of cars including a Ferrari, Bently etc. that’s why I bought it, was his grocery getter. It was down 3 quarts of oil after 3k miles. There is no excuse for that my 2 older AV don’t burn any oil. I see what people are doing and since my lifters aren’t shot yet I can go with the Diablo AFM deletion but I still don’t feel comfortable driving it to the middle of nowhere. Just disappointed.

Sorry if I am being pedantic, this is just terminology and you're likely well aware of the difference, but a Diablosport (or other) tune would have the option to disable AFM, not delete. Maybe the the tune will help with oil consumption (less likely?), but a true deletion is removing the AFM lifters and cam swap which is obviously a much more involved job.

PLease see my recent post about oil consumption and AFM. It's only been a few weeks, but the problem appears to be resolved. I had oil consumption, and loss of oil pressure symptoms just like you.
