2002 Avalanche Z71 with 290,000 miles and a 5.3. Using /burning oil any help/fixes here and or modifications would be appreciated.

290k miles wow.

My guess, worn valves, seals, and piston rings etc...

Compression seems to be good. All cylinders above 185, then again I don't know what is normal for the 5.3

That is great. good compression

Early 2002 had bad design PCV valve which allowed them to SMOKE on start up and burn oil.

Try that first - Cheap many threads from dated 2002 and 2003 discuss Oil smoke

I'm currently having this issue with my 2013 Avalanche.
Best start your own thread or find one with similar year as engines quite different since 2002 did not have AFM.

My 2002 driver side valve cover with new PCV design was installed. Truck still smokes at start up and constantly at idle when hot.

IF valve guides would be mainly at start up and less when running... but it is possible.

And/Or piston oil/scraper ring is for crap and leaving oil behind to be burned when running/idling but not so much at start up.

Or PCV is crap again.... easy test take it out and put hose in an old coffee can and drive around for a good while and let sit overnight and try again next day.

HOw bad is it?
how many qts of oil do you go down in say 1000 or 3000 miles?
WHat is oil pressure when engine idling and at cruising speed like 2000 rpm or so
