Oil pressure seems high after oil change

I recently performed the first oil change on my 2003 Avy at ~1300 miles. Changed to Mobil 1 5w30 and a K&N oil filter. I am now over 2k miles and have noticed that the oil pressure seems to run a bit higher.
Rugular city driving has pressure from 38-42, though when the accelerator is used "heavily" the oil pressure commonly hits 60+ and can hit 80.

At first I thought this just may be a thing with the new oil and filter so I have been watching it. Now with 700+ miles, I am still seeing it.

Could it be a bad filter? Paranoia? Or just the way it works?

As always, any info will be apprecialted.

Paranoia...suggest a search for oil pressure where others chime in with their normal oil pressures.....

I have a 2002 chev av 2500 and commonly run in the 60 range. I thought that was high too, but it's consistent.

:B:Think I would pull the filter--is it in plugged bypass???

Drain the oil and pull the filter and examine it for the bypass valve ops.

Or simply buy another filter and replace the old one--there should not be that much of a change?

The filter for the 5.3 avalanche has no by-pass valve ... The oil bypass valve is in the motor ...

My oil pressure is near 80 psi when cool to warm ... When it's hot after a long drive, it runs about 65 to 68 at speed ... 80 psi is normal if you don't get the oil hot ...

Another thing it could be is that the original factory oil was fuel-thinned ... And that would show a lower pressure compared to fresh oil ... What happens is the moment the new engine is fired up at the factory, the engine is cold and the rings are new ... It doesn't seal 100% and you'll get some raw fuel blown passed the rings into the oil ... (normal for a new motor) ... Also what doesn't help is the whole time the new truck is at the dealership, it's moved here, moved there and never warms up ... The motor is always in "enrichment" ... Usually test drives are short too ... So, the combination of always being enriched and new (rings not sealing) it is common to have a good amount of raw fuel in that factory oil ... I have changed MANY factory fills and my eyes would burn at times because it's so rank of fuel ...

So, if you had fuel thinned oil, that's why your fresh oil is showing higher ... Another reason I recommend dumping factory fill when you get home ... LOL

Starting in 2001 the 5.3 got a higher volume oil pump along with tighter tolerance main bearings ... This has reduced the motor chatter some have experienced on extreme cold mornings during start up ... So if anyone compares their 1999 or 2000 5.3 to yours as far as oil pressure and states it's too high, it's not ... It's designed that way ... (I had a 2000 5.3 and a 1999 5.3 so I can attest to the GM mod first hand) ... >:D
