Oil pressure sensor but no screen?

Hi everyone, new to the club... but have an odd situation.

I have a 2008 LTZ, 444,000 kms and the oil pressure sensor has gone wonky... loves to read 0 or max or bouncing all over the place... not bad for the mileage!

Anyway, here is the thing, I removed the sensor and then, as per the video's proceeded to fish the screen out, and well... there is no screen. I was able to put about almost 6 inches of coat hanger in before I hit something, clearly its missing... or is it?

Tried making several video's and well given the angles and everything, I can't see anything there at all.

Is this normal not to have one? Or could it have been replaced and someone forgot to put the screen in? Could this explain the weird sensor behaviour?

Any advice is good advice. A replacement sensor and screen are on the way. but before I drop the screen in... I was hoping to get some advice as to how to move forward.

Is it attached to your oil pressure sensor? It looks like it came out with the sensor.

I don't think so, unless it fell off behind the engine somewhere as I pulled the sensor up... hahaha. Its hard enough to see as it is... LOL! Considering how easy it is to access just about anything on this engine, its unfortunate this one is just something you do by "touchy feely." But once the new screen arrives I will see if the new screen just drops in. But I tried with several picks I have and even sacrified a coat hanger too and just nothing comes up and the fact that that much coat hanger goes in is impressive, so I think you may be right! Fingers this sensor comes soon. Will be nice to have my trusty friend back up and running again.

It is not uncommon for some owners to mistakenly think it is OK to remove that filter screen.

Some even suggest to others to do so.

Perhaps a previous owner or tech removed the one in your engine.

I suspect it would be fine to install a new one.

It's there for a reason.

I agree... I mean if you get dirty oil somehow getting past the oil filter itself and something lodges in there even by chance, it could throw the works off for sure. Thanks so much for the rapid replies!

Well it turns out, @BainMan was right on the money. After I moved the truck, it fell on the floor... LOL! So I guess when I pulled the sensor off, it came with it and fell off... that's what happens when you do stuff by touchy feely!

Well, started her up, went for a drive and the oil pressure needle is more... active, than before. When driving around she is about 45-60 psi, and at idle she is about 25-30 PSI (I am converting from KPA on Google). Before it was all over the place... so this seems better. Do those pressures seem about normal... It hasn't behaved since I bought her used, so I have no idea what a good reading is at idle. But the pressures at higher speeds seems very good to me now where as before it was just jumping and diving and dropping... thoughts?

I do not have an AFM engine, but those pressures are what I have seen for those that do and they feel their pressures are good.

Now I see what you mean I saw one of those post.
