One bad day for me and my AV

Ok so 1st thing I do is I over sleep this morning making me late for school. Then I go and deal with school as most of you know how that is. Then were the day took a very bad turn was at lunch as I was backing out of my Dad's drive way I look both ways before backing out were I lose all my visablity for parked cars and the AV's blind spot. No one come so I contiune to back out and then boom as I backed out an old El Camino had came around the corner and tryed to go around my back side. I get out I put a dent in his rear quarter pannel (well added one anyways) the El Camino was in very poor shape it had dents all over it and paint was pealing I only added the one dent in the rear quarter pannel. I look at my AV the rear bumper is toast. The metal bumper under the plastic is bent and my plastic is sticking out very far. I will try to get some pics.
Then I talked to my Insurance agent he recomeds that I try to take care of the other party involed out of book so my rates don't jump 15% so it sound like I got that covered. I went and got an Estimate on my AV $1,206.00 :eek: I can't belive how much a rear bumper cost
Bumper $588.49
Bumper Cover $236.44
RT Step pad outer $64.02
Reinforce bar $159.53
RT Bumper bracket $50.20
RT Brace $32.12
total of $1,206.40
so I will be working a little over time this month sorry to go on and on I just needed to vent then to make every thing else worse tonight when I got ready to go to a class at 6:00pm I locked my keys in my AV luckly I have OnStar active but I was still 5 min late all well the day is over now (y)

 
That gives us a perspective of what a simple goof costs... :rolleyes: And another reason for a backUp video system! That would have bought what..about three of 'em! :E:
 
AvaLance, so sorry to hear about your accident :6:

It's crazy how quick those parts prices add up. Good luck with those repairs.

Hope the costs to repair the El Camino aren't near as high

Sorry to hear about the accident....I had one in mine before she even had 2000 miles on her....Insurance spilled out over $8900.00 to fix mine....I truly feel your pain.

Well today didn't get much better. I talked to the Dad of the kid and he said I did $3,300.00 damage to his car. All's I hit was the rear quarter pannel and this car is a junk there are dents all over it and the paint is cracking. So I look at the bid it says RT Front Door, Full Paint job....I said whit I only damaged the rear quarter he said "yeah right here" I said " why is there a door on here"....."ohh that is what I am going to pay I didn't know he put that on there"
So I go and get the body man from Goss Motors he looks at the damage that I did. He said it would cost no more then $900.00 to fix. Then the Dad went off saying that this was his kids pride and joy and he had plans to restore it ect ect.... So I said I guess we will turn this over to insurance he said "but they will total my rig" I said "that is my problem how....I offered you money and you turned it down I am not going to pay you $3K for damage I didn't do"
So they go talk to my insurance agent and the kid tell my agent the story. "I came around the corner and say him backing out so I sped up to get around him and my horn doesn't work so I could not honk at him" Ummm hello did you ever think to use the brake????? I Mean if you saw me backing up why wouldn't you stop.
So he is going to file a claim both our insurances will go up but hey they wanted to jerk me around. These people are on low income and see that I have a new truck so they are going to try and take advantage of me any way that can.

Sorry I just needed to vent big time.

I'm not sure but it kinda seems as though if your position in the road was already established, and he tried to get around you by speeding up, it might that brat's fault. At least you got him to say it to your insurance agent.

You don't mention if you called the police to the scene or if you filed a report. I hope you at least file a report because the damage is such that by law, you have 72 hours to file (if I remember Oregon's law on that correctly). Calling the police to the scene might have helped your case (or might have hurt it, just thinking out loud here) because that brat's car does not have a required saftey item, namely a horn. Is that against the law? I dunno. I just remember that to take my driver's test in Oregon, the vehicle was checked out beforehand, including the horn. I think if that kid said his famous statement in front of a police officer, he might have been sited.

yeah he did help me out. As for the law you are not required to file a report unless the damage is over $1,500.00 and even though he is filling one out the new law says I don't have to. I have a good friend the is a police officer. Yeah I hope they find some falt in the little brat I mean did stoping ever cross his mind
 
Wow Lance this sucks man!

From what I'm gathering here, this guy is just stupid! He's at fault, plus he was trying to file a false insurance claim (fraud!) He's now going to raise his insurance rates, as well as yours. :D: Plus his car will be totaled, when he wanted to restore it. He doesn't have a horn (illegal). He said he sped up, was he speeding? (illegal) He doesn't have a leg to stand on. He should give this up quick. :E: :0: :rolleyes:

Because my rear bumper is bent out and up not pushed in and if I would have hit him it would have been pushed in. There for I was backed out and he hit me. Like he told my agent "yeah I came around the corner and saw him backed out so I sped up to get around him and my horn didn't work" So I think I may get a new bumper after all. I will try to get some pics up soon.

As Yoda would say,"Don't try,....Do!" Get those pics. Along with pics of the location in which the accident happened. Hang on to them, you may need them in dealing with the insurance companies....
 
We're glad to hear that there is an investigation going on..... We think that a good portion of fault lies with the other driver.....

Bad day you are right, but maybe because of the ststement from the kid he will be in fault. And also remember if they give him any % of fault.Damage will be split as per fault%. Have frame checked get the best body shop in town and with good luck his car will be total loss blue book is low possibly $ 600-900 but your damage can be much higher you need add labor. All can go much higher then you think. And even with 50/50 % fault he will owe you some money.
Something to look into.
 
UPDATE:
Well I finaly got to turn in my claim and my accident report. The adjester will contact me in the next 2 days and he is going to talk to my insurance agent. Because my agent has done a great job investagating this crash. So I will know in the next week or so who they will find at falt. I hope they find the real person at falt here. BTW I guess my agent saw the kid driving today he said he came around the coner and went in to the other lane of traffic and then got in his own lane :eek: crazy driver. anyways that is the update
