Well, I'm going to remove my midgate tonight and drop it off at the stereo shop over the weekend so they can cut a set of 12" P2 subs into it, then build boxes on the bed side. The sub boxes they'll be building will be wide and tall (but short enough that the midgate will fold without the box hitting the cross bar under the glass) but only as deep as they need to be to house the speakers. This way I'll be able to fold the midgate and stack stuff on the backside of this "speaker box" and all I'm really losing is a few inches of bed length when the midgate is up.

What I'm wondering is whether or not there would be any merit to adding a few other speakers back there as well? I figured that since they're going to have it anyway, I might as well add a couple of 6's (or 6 x 9's or whatever) in the midgate as well. This would give me two subs on a 1500 watt amp, then a couple of other speakers of whatever size they can fit, on a separate amp. Then, they could fiberglass the whole shootin' match on the back to keep everything out of the weather and out of harms way when I start tossing gear into the bed.

This would all be in addition to the factory Bose (no highs, no lows must me Bose  ) 6 speaker system and I'm posing the question here only because I'm sure they'll say "Sure, you should do that! Visa card please!" to everything I ask.

I need some honest advice before I go in and any opinions or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Joe

Dude, you are going crazy ;) Personally, I don't want to have my midgate cut, or lose the use of it. DC, had a nice setup, with a 15" (I think) in it. Look back at the thread where 03AVChris had his made, that is the setup you should go with ;D

Putting anything else besides subs and midbass drivers in the midgate would be useless. The back seat would block all and any sound coming from a midrange driver. I would put a kick ars component set up front.

That's exactly what I was wondering. I didn't know if mid range or high speakers would make it to the front.

Thanks Yoshi. coming your way. ;)

You want your stage to be up front NOT behind you...

When you go to see a band or movie Where do you sit????

10 rows back center stage, Thats how you want your truck to sound like.. (y)

Be creative Joe.

Remove the back seats, midgate and start your new project at the tailgate.
............and add lots of Neons >:D

Strobes too. >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D >:D

Here ya go Joe, Chris's setup, he just sold it for 2k. That was a steal

I agree with Tinman....You just need to cut away the Midgate, remove the seats and turn the whole bed area and back seat into speakers.....LOL

That's almost what I did to my 72 Pinto...I took out the back seat and mounted house speaker boxes into the rear. All this was powered by a Pioneer Super Tuner...

Oh, those were the days.... ;) >:D

That would lose too much function. My plan would still allow full function of the midgate, retain the glass storage area and not negatively affect any of the midgate components.

I'll post pics when done. I have a plan and a Visa.........what else does a man need? ;)

Hmmm.... We shall see how this turns out... I have to admit I do not like the idea of cutting the midgate or adding anything to the bed area that would reduce the usefulness of the bed... Not to mention the fact that water can and will enter the bed area and last time I checked, electronics still don't like to get wet... But, I look forward to seeing your creation. (y)

I guess it's out of my hands...

Huh? I saw your other post but putting the subs in the front wouldn't really be an option. ???

If you got something feel free to share since yours is one of the opinions that I really repect. A lot more than Goatboy anyway. >:D

Just kidding Ov. Still  ya' buddy. ;)

I would replace the HU , door speakers, and put an amp on them. Just my opinion but I think you would be alot happier. (y)

What I am saying is Bass can be put just about any where But your Highs and mids should be towards the front not the mid gate.

The rear is for fill You want the stage in front of you.. Thats why JL made a great amp called the 450/4 4ch But with much more power in the front.... ;D

Yeah, I hear ya. I just don't want to rip out the Bose system that I paid like $1500 for and replace the entire thing. I just want to add some bass and figured it might be worth supplementing the existing mids and highs, but obviously that wasn't a very good idea.

I think I might just stick to "Plan A", add the P2 12's in the midgate and shift my focus toward other mods. Like that dual exhaust I been eyeballin'....... >:D

Thanks for the "Audio Input" guys. ;)
