Last night I had noticed that my right sail panel led's were no longer working. Well, under the truck I went to check my connections, and everything was fine as far as I could tell. Followed all lines back to both left/right sail panel led's to check and see if something was lose. Nope! Took sail panel apart to check connections there, all is well. Went back to Trailer tap and ground connections to check again, all is well. Got in the truck, stepped on the brake, still no right sail panel led's. "What the $#@%!" Then got a bright idea. Grabbed my 12volt battery charger, went back to the trailer tap and ground, dissconnected them then hooked them up to the charger. They work! Hooked them back up to the trailer tap and ground, hopped in the truck thinking it was fixed, stepped on the brake, nothing. "Son of a *&^%$!" I was livid. Then I figued what the heck, check the fuses. Looked them up in the owners manual, sure enough, a fuse for both left & right trailer lights. Pulled the correct one out and it was fried. Put new one in. Hopped in truck, stepped on brake, TADAH!!! I spent nearly 1 1/2 hours trying to figure this stupid thing out, and it was a damn fuse! Go figure. So, if you have Sail LED's wired into the trailer harness and they go out. BE SURE TO CHECK THE FUSE'S FIRST!!!

Costs of LED's $40
Cost of Wire $3.00
Cost of Wire Splicers $1.25

That info you just provided.........priceless!

Thanks for the headsup Jimmy. I have this mod and was not aware that the fuses could potentially be a problem.

Karma for the great post!

Jimmy ... there was a reason the fuse blew out .... I would go back and check the wiring and make sure that it is not shorting out on something ....

We had the same problem with Spork's wiring ... blew two fuses on the right lights until we found it was a pinched wire on the bolts for the side compartment lid ....

:0: I have one side out too.. I'll have to check after this rain stops.
I ran over an old truck tire in Fla I think it hit a wire. I will see this weekend.. Thanks for the info ;D

My thoughts exactly. Compared to the power that a real trailer light will draw, the current draw of the LEDs is negligable (less than a 1/16th of an amp for all three on one side.)

You can be sure that it wasn't the LEDs that blew the fuse, you might have a wire rubbing somewhere. Look carefully for any pinched wires or holes in the insulation. There is probably a bare spot grounding out somewhere...

You can eliminate about 95% of the wiring problem by running your wires inside a wire loom (plastic shielding the wires run though). You can run the wire loom from your trailer harness to the sail panel. Then the only wiring you'd have to check is your connections inside the sail panel which can be electrical taped or covered with silicon.

This should be an easy way to make sure you're not grounding out.

Well, I'm not sure why or how it shorted out. I went over every inch of wire with a fine toothed comb and still didn't see or feel anthything. Nothing bound or pinched? The Led's are working fine for now, but if it happens again I'll just strip all the old wire out and start over from scratch.

Hey EnkeiAV, sorry to hear it wasn't your fuse. Sounds like you'll be going over the wires inch by inch as well...that sux! Good Luck.

I know if mine go out it is because I used wire nuts in the sail panel rather then stak-ons....

I will be changing em.... when I get around to it.... so far no issues and it has been a few months...

This blown fuse problem happens also if you hook up a trailer wiring plug for a boat trailer, utility trailer, travel trailer, ect., and there is a short in the trailer. The fuse will blow that protects the faulty trailer wire only. The regular light circut on the AV will work just fine. If you don't know there is a seperate fuse for the trailer circuts, you can go crazy trying to figure out what the problem is. You can take that to the bank.
