OnStar Going Bankrupt?!?!?

I reupped the Onstar when the free service that came with the truck was up. I hardly ever use it, but its like insurance. You hope you don't really need it. I would have hated to drop it then really need it for something. I have had trouble with the voice recognition myself. Because I don't use it too often, I never think to bring it in to be checked.

I didn't expect anything different. This is way to much and you can't carry it with you when you leave the car. I have AT&T cell phone and I like in one of the hardest states to get recption in, Coloroado. What makes it hard is the mountains. But, i get great coverage thought out the state. I had a guy in a Ford Explorer tip over his car on Bertad Pass. Those damn Ford owners going to fast up a pass in the middle of a blizzard, go figure. I just used my cell phone to call 911. Onstar in my opinion is not worrh the money if you get a good cell phone provider like AT&T. Just so you know I don't work for AT&T, but i like there services.

I think OnStar will be around for the long term. GM has too many vehicles on the road with the system to let it go under. Personal calling, however may go away. It is very limited now and does not seem to be growing. Personally I just use the cell phone. I have a much better plan than they offer.

To me the biggest issue is the cost. They are making efforts there. I see they now offer a monthy billing option. $30 bucks a month is much easier to absorb than a lump sum annual payment.

I use the system a lot for driving directions and locating services. They do just fine there. In general, I like it and will keep it.

As I read all of these posts I see one thing that I feel vital to point out. OnStar is a service. Personal calling/Virtual Advisor is a seperate service. I just think that when we discuss OnStar we should discuss only OnStar. I think it's important not to make any new owners think that there is a monthly service fee outside of the annual OnStar fee. For me, OnStar is worth every penny, and I have the $399 directions & connections package. I think that the Personal Calling is overpriced for most as most of us do have some huge cell phone package. Now, I'm not trying to debate wether OnStar is worth it or not, that's for each and every one of you to decide by yourselves. Instead just giving my opinion about the service and trying to clear up a repeated misconception in this post about the difference between OnStar and Personal Calling.

This CAFCNA member does not work for GM or OnStar. Please do not flame. It's only an opinion. For well qualified buyers. Limited time offer, cannot be combined. Ect, ect. ;)
