:help: What is with onstar discontinuing Analog service to their customers and not giving an upgrade?  They told me that there isn't anything out to upgrade my 02 Av.   Is this true or is there something out there that they just don't know about.  This really makes me mad considering this was one of the selling points for me.  Heck if I knew this i would have saved some money and bought the one with out the onstar.  Can someone help me please.

I am in the same situation.

It is a FCC regulatory thing. Technology is growing fast.
But you never know something may happen in the next few months.(8 months)

I am pi$$ed because it gives me 30% discount in auto insurance.
Guess I need to plan on Lo-Jack to keep the discount.

Also I do use it Quite Frequently.

The FCC is discontinuing the use of the frequencies used by analog cell phones in March 2008.  All 2002-2003 plus most 2004 AVs have analog-only OnStar.  After that, they started putting in dual analog + digital OnStars in them.  The digital ones use the Verizon network.  You can upgrade your OnStar to digital for about $300.00.  It's a complete swap out, and it can only be done at the dealer.

Just one correction:  It was all 2002, and early 2003 that had the analog only.  Later 2003 and most 2004 had the "Digital Ready".  I have a 2003, and had the upgrade.

Actually, read that closer. 2002s "cannot" be upgraded - at least so-far. :E:

BTW, the FCC ALLOWED cellphone companies to discontinue the AMPS (Analog) service. Since digital is more efficient than analog in several ways, all the involved service providers followed suit. Then of course, the FCC will no longer issue analog cellphone service licenses.

Verizon is not exclusive to OnStar contracts, only primary. This is regardless if it's analog AMPS or CDMA digital.
