when I push overdrive button to shift from 4th to 3rd gear I dont feel a shift or see a difference on tach. I am doing this to assist slowing on long steep hills in my 2500. I have also tried this on level roads as well. Shouldn't my tac go up when downshifting? I have only owned truck since Jan22. Thanks in advance

Overdrive button?? I think your referring to the tow/haul button on the shift lever and its function is to raise the shift point so as to hold it in gear a bit longer when towing, good when pulling a hill or heavy load.

Only way to disable OD is to move the shift lever to 3rd..

Randy pretty much answered this one...

Yes sir I am referring to tow/haul switch. I have never owned a vehicle with this switch. My previous tow vehicle about 15 years was a Ram with 6 speed manual with Jake. I never had a problem slowing but I love this Avy so getting used to it. I like using gadgets on vehicles to assist with mechanical advantage especially when towing. I am on my way to haul a couple of cords of firewood today. Perhaps I confused this switch with her old 96 Explorer and my 2000 Tundra which did have an OD switch. Hit the switch- vehicle downshifted to 3rd, RPMs rose and vehicle slowed. I liked using the button vs using shift lever because you dont have to worry about mistakenly selecting wrong gear such as 2 and bombing tranny. I appreciate you guys knowledge, Thank you
