Paint Peeling on 2013

I've had my Black Diamond 3 years, 10 days.  It has about 38k on it.

Saturday I noticed at the top of the windshield there is about a 1/4" tall, 2" wide paint peeling strip, and it's starting to rust.

I didn't buy an extended warranty, so I'm guessing I'm just outside of it.  Even so, see as there is already rust started, I'm sure I was still well within warranty when the issue began.  And it's not in a location that would see any normal wear due to constant road debris.

Has anyone dealt with this before?  Should I approach the dealer first, or GM directly?  Is paint covered longer than powertrain by any chance?  Anyone had something that they covered just past warranty?

Any hints or advice would be helpful.  Thanks.

Paint I am not sure of but rust is, or at least a few years ago was covered much longer than the powertrain. Take it to the dealer.

I agree with z66 BUTCH and take it to the dealer first, if not resolved then file with GM customer service.

Read warranty brochure that cmae with truck.... may have some helpful info

Yea I'd take it to the dealer also and see what they have to say, usually though if i'm not mistaken, rust is usually a cosmetic thing and not covered unless its through the sheet metal.  Hopefully you have a good dealer that will goodwill the repair.

Go to dealership first and see what they will do for you. Ask for a zone rep to get involved if they say they cannot help you. If you don't have any luck there call GM customer service and get a case number established. They will reach out to the dealer on your behalf to help resolve the problem. It is a primer issue. Good luck!

What color?? We have had some issues with thin, chipping paint on our Black Diamond... White Diamond Tricoat..

It seems like GM REALLY skimped on the paint coverage in the last year, and the edges are super sloppy...  :E:

We have had ours for about 3 years and 6 months and have just a shade over 36k on it.

The 3rd brake light cladding was already repainted under warranty because of chipping... Really hoping we don't have any more issues

Well... I guess its time to  :E: :E: :E: :E: :E:

I noticed this morning when I went to wash the truck that the paint was peeling in the EXACT spot you mentioned above...

About 1/4 inches high, and 3-4 inches long, straight down to the gray sealcoat...

37,601 pampered miles.....

I called GM and the woman told me there wasn't anything they could do, so I pressed the issue and got to speak to a higher up..

They agreed to start a claim, and told me to take it to my dealer to get it inspected. I have an appointment in the morning to get it looked at.  :(

I am SO bummed out... I know that I can touch it up but I am afraid that it will just keep peeling.

Please share how things went with the dealer. I have a 2013 black diamond in silver with the same issue. I understand there has been some changes to the paints used for vehicles due to "environmental issues".I would like a follow from some of you guys and gals that already were through the trenches Thanks a lot

Sorry Rick, I'm certain there is no original warranty left that includes rust on a 7 year old truck. These guys likely still had a warranty back in 2016.
I just had a quarter panel and all 4 doors worked on for rust a few weeks back, but it was most definitely out of pocket.
