Parking Brake

I'm taking my Avalanche to the dealer for a look and or repair of the parking brake on tuesday gave them the TBS number for grinding noise in the rear will see what is the matter.
The brakes havn't really worked all that well from the start and i don't use them all that much anyway unless parking on a hill, will post what happends

My Avalanche has a parking brake? Here I thought all this time that pedal was there to give me a false sense of security.

Ha Ha Chief on your post , My park pedal goes to the floor when i set the park brake this i think a safety issue as it's called the emergency brake and with GM putting out a TBS number on this there must be some problems with this brake system and should be coverd under WARRANTY as some have.
I a'm taking my truck to the dealer tomorrow and will let every one know what happends, as a side note am also having my onstar looked at as it will not connect to onstar at all, this is another story

Is that what that thing is? I thought it was there to break your left shin bone in a frontal collision!

When I looked at the pedal, I was thinking of cutting away from the lower-left to the upper rt. to increase the chance of deflecting a leg instead of a blunt strike. I guess I'll have to drive with my legs crossed until then -- but that might cause a collision ...Hmmmm.

But back to the subject, I had the dealer look at mine - it would go to the floor too easy - overtravel & poor holding. They did fix, adj and improve the operation. ('03 'Z71 1500 )

Mine is also an '03 Z71 1500, and mine grabs sufficiently to prevent my AV rolling whil on a rather steep incline (I'd guess somewhere around 30 degree incline). I suppose I depress the pedal around 75-80%, definately not to the floor.

I've always been told that the parking brake should be used occasionally, while parked ( ) to help maintain it's functionality)

Got back from the dealer about hour ago the problem with onstar is on thair end told will be called in one to five days, the problem with the park brake is not fixed pedel still goes all way to the floor
Was told by dealer service person nothing was wrong with the brakes i said the the pedal goes all way to floor and still does gave TBS number to the service person on sat. when i was there to make appointment for the park brakes and onstar the dealer could't find the number on there computer, when i called to see if my truck was done was told what was done was not charged for any thing, when i got my truck back there was a heavy smell of CIG SMOKE IN THE TRUCK what up with that i don't smoke so it wasn't ME so my problem is not solved

Well I fixed my parking brake myself about a month ago. If you would like to give the dealer a copy of the TSB here it is.

You might have already done this but there is another thread about this whole issue. It is here.

Ditto for me. 2004 Z-66. No swamps, but no hills either.

Just got a call from onstar and they say every thing on the celluar end is all right and gave me free 30 min. on the phone one problem untill today i didn't know that my phone service had been activated, now onstar wants me to take my truck back to the dealer to be tested one problem it was there on tuesday to be tested and i was given a case number and contact person at onstar to talk to one problem can't get hold of this person for some reason now onstar is calling me back.
I know if i take my truck back to the dealer some one not me is paying for a rental car as this dealer does't loan cars unless the 24 hour test drive is still on will let every one know what happends next

Does anyone know if GM has had a recall on the parking brake issue. Isnt this supposed to be an emergency brake also. I am amazed as to the number of people that have had problems with this. I just bought an 02 with a little over 40000 miles and of course mine is useless also. I am just wondering if anyone has had theirs fixed out of warranty without charge due to the large number of complaints. Seems like they have a major issue with this.

They fixed mine for free after the warranty had run out. They also replaced both rear discs because the parking brake problem ruined them. I was not charged for any of the work or parts. I was at 48,000 when they did this.

Well onstar wants me to take my truck back to the dealer to be DIAGNOSED again, well it will be some time if at all i have time to go back to the dealer so i guiess it's time i start to look for a good price for LOJACK in my area and have it installed as soon as i can.
If any one in the Phily Pa. area knows of a place with a good price let me know, if enought of us want LOJACK maybe a groupe buy can be had, Who Knows

Was at my sister in laws birthday party last night and one of my brothers boweling friends is an Auto Mech. got to talking about my Avalanche told him that parking prake pedel goes to the floor and he told me that there was a recall on the parking prake assm. for just that, told him about the TSB Bulletin #02-05-26-002 for noise in the rear of vehicle and he wasn't sure it was the same thing as this had just come in all data or another service, i will be calling him at work Monday afternoon to check on this will keep this form updated when i get more info.

Had my oil changed at Dave's Auto Repair were the friend of my sister in law works to check on what info he had from his sources about our Parking Brake Assm. well it turns out it was the same as we have and there is NO RECALL so every thing is the same
