Does anyone have pictures of what this area looks like under the skin? I have an '03 with buckets and the Bose stereo.

I know the sub woofer is under this area and I believe quite large. I am looking for a location for my newly configured car computer (micro ATX) and thought about using the area behind where the 12v outlets currently are as a nice spot. I will have a vga touch screen in front of that, so I need quite a bit of depth for the computer.

If you have a picture could you post it, I may have to punt and install under rear seat or console, but flipping the screen down to load DVDs and software would be so nice!

Thanks. This is not exactally the setup, but something kind of like this deep DIN sized "carputer" you can buy off the shelf. This one is 10" deep + room for wires, that gets a little too deep for in dash most times. Still an awesome setup.

OK... GOTTA KNOW... got some sites where I can investigate this "carputer" a bit more???? Been thinking about building a custom one, but this might just be the answer!!

THANKS!! Post or IM me!!

Blue, it is actually a little closer to the center console and not quite as large as you are thinking. fortunately for you, I just took apart the console again to finish installing the aux jjvideo ports and power inverter and I could leave it somewhat apart until the GTG on Sat. Let me know.

Kokiakz - if you hava a camera and can snap a picture or two that would be great, then you can snap it back together - I hate leaving jobs not quite done, so I understand if you want to get it done.

"CARPUTERS" A term I have been using for years, but a product a couple companies are actually making. What you are looking for is "Mini ITX or Flex ATX" motherboards and related items - here are some links:

Best source of hardware I think:
http://www.directron.com/minibarebone1.html
They have some good systems you can buy together for around $500 - $700 with an OS, tested and all ready to go.
also idot.com is a good place with lots of options.

Some AWESOME computers and good links and stuff:

Another company that has finished products:
http://www.cappuccinopc.com/

Anyway, I am looking to put together a system with basically the following:
The motherboards are cool - built in almost everything - sound, video with TV out, 1000+Mhz processors, networking.
Mine will include:
DC-DC power supply ( here is a vendor)
DVD player - maybe a combo drive to record CDs, but not that important
30-40 gig hard drive
WiFi
USB 2.0
6 in one card reader
7" Touchscreen LCD
Serial port (for GPS)
Mini flex keyboard mounted to visor (USB)
Wireless optical mouse and gamepad

So you get a DVD player, game console, navigation, voice command, note taker, wireless internet... I have some good software that "reads" to you so it will download good websites and E-mail while truck warms up in the garage. I can then ask it to read me my E-mail on my way to work, and read the CNN page or weather or something. Dock my PocketPC and sync everything up.

Damn! That'd be a sweet setup! (y)

I've got GPS hooked up to my Pocket PC which is nice... but the screen is still too small for much detail... :(

can't wait to see what you put together!

In the past I mounted a full size OLDER computer $200.00 w/cd in the trunk with a 12 to 120 converter. Used a mini keyboard and flat screen up front with long cables. Easy setup.
