Sounds like a great deal from sounddomain.com

anybody have any reasons why I shouldn't buy this head unit. It goes for 349.00 at all my local retailers.

i would buy it. i have the DEH-P640. i paid about the same. i would definitely get it. i think the new listings/website call my model DEH-P6400 now.
buy it dude! :B:

That is a great deal. It is a very good unit.
I have the 8400, just because it has a couple other options, comes in brushed aluminum color, has a larger more graphic display, and has the cool motorized flip down face. The cheapest the 8400 goes for is around $350 I beleive. Check my pics for visuals.

? hey , did you ever get that HU?
This was the same headunit I was looking at, over at sounddomain too....but after seeing this one and seeing zimms...I think I want to flip the difference and go with the 8400...sweet....with some INfinity coaxials/components... :B:

Go for the 8400!
It's definitely worth the extra $

Soooo pretty...

I think mine came out to around $350 when I had Sounddomain beat Etronics price.

I think the 7400 is a great deck, but IkeSound has a deh740mp which is still a little better than the 7400. on sale now for $235...

I beleive any HU can be installed and still alow Onstar to work. You just have to get the extra harness/adapters. I don't have Onstar, but I beleive it's the OS-1.

What ZimmsAv said. There is an interface for Onstar, everything will work just as it did.

I've been thinking about upgrading my HU to the Pioneer DEH-P7400MP as well. I don't need "window rattling" sound but do like to crank it up occasionally for certain music.

Will just this pioneer be enough? I heard it has an onboard-amp (MOSFET50).

Is the MOSFET50 better than factory amp? If so, will they need to bypass the factory amp?

I don't want to spend $200+ for a HU for an unnoticable difference.

Yes you will notice a significant im porvement, but you will need to bypass the factory amp.
That pioneer will do a much better job than the factory junk.
Plus you will now have MP3 capability. Nothing like 180 songs on 1 cd. I made up my own little jukebox list in excel that rides right along side with me ;D

Even with the stock POS speakers?

But for around $200 you could make an even bigger improvement with some new coaxials :0:

Or top it off by throwing in a 4-channel amp! >:D
Stop it Zimm...your making me crazy.....I don't have a money tree in my backyard... ;D (y) :B:

It's a done deal as of 5pm Eastern time....my beautiful wife just purchased the DEH-7400 from Etronics.com for my Valentines Day gift....

I was originally going to go with the 8400, but decided that it was too much money for the H/U....so I took a look and compared....decided that the 7400 was enough to suit my needs...and so the wife whipped out the card! (cha-ching) ....and here in a few days or so...I should have it.....

Zimms, Fish, Wiki....thanks for putting up with my annoying pm's regarding audio.. ;D greatly appreciated..

Dave

Hey NJAV,
Congrats on the impending Head Unit!!
Now comes the hard part..........waiting!! I repalced the head unit w the Pioneer 8400, bypassed the amp and repalaced the rear speakers with the Pioneer REV series TS-D160R (2 Ways). The sound is great, but being dragged down by the factory front components. I am now searching for the fronts, can not decide between the REV series in the front or going compnents. Anybody got IDEAS?? ???

I've actually got my stereo supplies sitting here waiting for my AV to come in.. Any day now... I have Rockford FNX2614 components for the front(heard they sound great and great price), and I plan on keeping the stock tweeters up front, and installing the RF tweeters in the location that the Bose system has them, the corner windshield braces.. Pioneer 740MP HU, Focal HPC165 coax's in back, with a Pioneer 4-channel amp running regular speakers, and A Rockford amp running 2-10" Kove Armegeddon subs, (going to use the space beneath the rear seats for the box, and will figure out where to install the amps when I get the AV.... waiting....

I'm looking at the Pioneer DEH-8400 also. What else do I need to buy besides the HU and the OS-1 for Onstar? Do I need any face plates or does the 8400 fill in the whole area where the factory HU was? Do I need any extra cables or stuff? I'm just getting the HU to start with and not any speakers yet. Will I have to bypass the factory amp and does it have instructions on how to bypass them?

One more question. Where online can I purchase the Onstar OS-1 part?

I do not have onstar, so my install of the 8400 was very easy. You will need an Install kit, as the head unit is smaller in size, and an antennae adapter. You can find instructions on bypassing the factory amp at the beginning of the Audio/Video Electronics " Stereo tips and where to buy".

Yes, you will need a faceplate adapter kit for the P8400 to fill in the space around it.
That is an awesome unit too. I love mine.
MP3 capability is awesome. 200 songs on 1 cd!
Then I just do a numbered print-out in excel with all the songs & folders so I can find them easily.

I went the whole route and rewired & upgraded everything. At a minimum I would bypass the factory amp and run everything from the 8400. Then, the next upgrade would be new speakers, amp, then sub >:D

You can purchase that OS-1 from our partner JP Customs

FYI - Sounddomain & Etronics normally have the best prices. Have you read my Stereo Tips thread at the top of our A/V forum.
