Pismo Beach/Lake Lopez/Oceano Dunes/Hearst Castle
July 25th - 28th, 2003

Come to the Central Coast of California for a Weekend of Fun in the Sun!
If you can not stay the entire time, just come for as long as you can!

Robert (AVKING) has put together the details for this cruise/meet with
lots of activities that should suit just about everyone's idea of fun & budget.

AVKING- "The camp sites located at the beach were all booked, and no one seemed interested in camping on the beach, too much sand... I made reservations at the Lopez Lake Campgrounds. The campground is less than 15 minutes from the Ocean and put us in a great location for all activities."

We have a group campsite reserved. The group site is called Del Norte and it's right across from the lake and next to the water slides. The Del Norte site can accomodate up to 24 vehicles, so we don't have any capacity issues. We have plenty of room for everyone! It has private water and flush toilets, as well as electrical connections. The electric is not for trailer hookups, but can be used for radios and small electronics. It is a short drive or moderate walk to hot showers. The site also has an extra large BBQ pit for the group BBQ Event. The group site costs $156/night and includes 12 vehicles. Each additional vehicle is $12/night. The individual cost for camping will be $15/night per vehicle. ?I will collect the camping fees from everyone on-site.

"Please RSVP either here or via email mcne1997@aol.com ASAP.
Dogs are welcome.
There are plenty of hotels in the area if you are not interested in camping."

"Weather at the Lake is great this time of year. Warm days and cool evenings are the norm. You can expect high temp to reach the low to mid 90’s, low temps in the high 60’s and Lake water temp in the 70’s. If you have a boat of jet skis, you can bring them to this lake. Rentals are available and details are listed below."

Loose Itinerary:
Saturday 10:00am to 3:00pm Meet at the Pismo Dunes for ATV Rentals, Dune Buggy Rentals, Horseback Riding, Dune Running in the AVs or just fun on the beach. I have listed a couple ATV rental companies below, if you want to make reservations. Horseback riding is first come first served. You will have to pay a $5 fee to drive onto the beach and dunes.

Saturday afternoon on your own and is a good time to see Pismo or rent some water toys and play in the lake. I am going to rent a Wave Runner and Pontoon Boat for several hours. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome. I would love the company.

Saturday 7:30pm Group BBQ at the campgrounds. Burgers, Dogs, Sodas, Beer and Condiments will be provided. We will have a sign-up for the extras.

Sunday 9:00am Hearst Castle Tour and Picnic in San Simeon -OR- 4x4 up to Big Falls and Little Falls. Hearst Castle and San Simeon are about 1 hour up Hwy 1 and you need reservations. The 4x4 trails are right around the corner.

Sunday afternoon on your own and is a good time to visit downtown San Luis Obispo or rent some water toys and play in the lake. I am going to do some hiking. Anyone who wants to join me is welcome. I would love the company.

Sunday 7:30pm Bring your own food, but lets eat it together.

The rest of the times are on your own to explore...
I guarantee you will not run out of fun things to do, on any budget.

AS YOU HAVE POSTED WE WILL BE THERE FRIDAY TO MONDAY. I THOUGHT I ALREADY POSTED HERE, I MUST HAVE POSTED AT THE SO. CAL. SITE. ANYWAY ANY AND ALL ACTIVITES ARE A GO.

I will definetly be going. I plan on being there from Friday to Sunday. My issue is that since I usally only get back to California once a year, my family and some friends will be wanting to join me on this trip. I will need to reserve some extra camp sites, including one with trailer hookups. I will set up the reservations for myself (and family). If possible, I would like to get some detail of where at the camp site you all will be staying? This way I can try to get as close by as I can.

Lopez is seperated into 10 or 15 areas. We are in the Del Norte Group Site camp area.

By the way: It is great to have you at this one. You will get the farthest travel prize, if we have one. When you can, let me know how many (including family) will be coming to the BBQ, so I can buy enough supplies. Thanks.

Come on everyone. RSVP for this one. We had a lot of interest in the other threads for this trip, so just post again and I will put you on the confirmed list and make sure you have a campsite. So far we have 6 AVs, 17 + people and one really big dog.

If you can not do Western Regional or National, consider this trip.

It looks like we'll catch the tail end. We'll be in San Diego the week before and stop in SLO on the way home. So we'll try to catch up with y'all sometime on Saturday night or most likely Sunday ane we'll stay at a motel until Monday. So look for five of us.

As I posted on the other thread
If any one wants to goes up early, (or need an excuse to) the San Luis Obispo Farmers Market on Thursday nights is worth looking at. They close down 3-4 blocks of Higuera Street for 3-4 hours. There is lots of produce, entertainment and barbeque! Check this link for more info: SLO Farmer's Market
Other places of interest: If you inflict a bit of damage on yourselves ATV'ing or Jetskiing there is Avila Hot Springs. The college crowd usually heads toward Avila Beach, on the way to Port San Luis and Diablo Canyon. There are a lot of nice golf courses, if you can get away >:D.

Great to have you. If you can make it Saturday by 7:30, we are having the big BBQ. If not, we will see you Sunday. Watch the thread for more details and how to contact us on your way in.

Put me down on the list for 2 for the whole trip for now. Just got the truck lifted 9 inches so this will be it's trial run in the dunes.

WHAT LIFT DID YOU GET? DID YOU DO A BODY LIFT TOO?
DID YOU GET NEW TIRES AND RIMS? CAN'T WAIT TO SEE.

I'm already making my list so I don't forget anything this time. Can't wait! It's gonna be fun! ;D

Woo Hoo! Another AV GTG that I can attend!

After missing BigReds and SoCalCindy's GTG's due to bad scheduling karma, I finally get to meet everyone in person!

Count me in- all days.

Good to have you. I need some info for camping sites and food. How many coming and are you tent camping or hotel?

Well, I knew it was to good to be true. I have just been assigned to manage a project that will be starting a week before this trip, so I will be unable to make it. I guess that I will have to start looking ahead to the possibility of a Western Regional Meet. I hope that you all have a great time.

Dave D.

Sorry to hear it. Check the Western Regional Meet thread. We are already talking about it.

Avking, I too was on the fence, you just didn't know it ? :cautious:

But now I'm off the fence and on the trip! ?If you still have room....I hope you do....

I plan on bringing my two girls for a total of 3 of us. ?If my wife is up to camping (we'll hotel it if you're full) it will be four with a dog. ?That's an unlikely scenerio...

Let me know if there is room. ?
Thanks,
Chuck.

edit - I should say Friday to Sunday!

I have you down for three, camping, Fri to Sun. Great to have you. The dog is allowed in the campground, but not in the lake. Because of this, I may not bring Moose, since it is pretty hot. I am not sure yet.

(y) Thanks! Hey, you mentioned something about having beer there for the bbq, would it be cool if I bring a 5 gallon keg of homebrew?

Couple new additions today. The current count is:

12 AVs, 35 people & 2 dogs camping.
2 AVs & 9 people making a day trip.
3 AVs & up to 10 people on the fence.

Of course. That will save me a few $$$ on beer. If we get enough adults coming was just going to order a beer-ball. You have those is CA, right?

Havn't seen a beer ball in a while...don't know if they still exist. No worries though, I'll brew something up for us. How about something along the lines of Bass Ale?

Sounds great to me.
