Hi all,

I'm bringing my AV into the dealership today for the ever increasing noise from Piston Slap.

I've read several posts and threads on the issue and I TRULY hope the dealership does what they say they will. According to my service writer, if it's bad enough they might even swap out my engine

After I brought it in over a month ago for the same thing along with a few other minor issues to correct, they explained to me it was "normal".

When I received the survey in the mail along with a phone call from GM, I expressed to them my complete dis-satisfaction with my treatment. I explained that there is no way on Gods Green earth a truck with less than 40K miles should sound like a truck that's 20 years old or more.....Each person I spoke to agreed with me and explained that I needed to bring it in for service and they would correct my problem....We'll see about GM's road to redemption!!!

Anyone have any suggestions before I bring it in today?...Please share!!!

Yeah, I know what you mean.....When they it was "Normal" the first time I went in, I said OK...I'd like one of the ones that are ABNORMAL please!!!

I had a simular problem with piston slap about 3 months ago. I watched the oil pressure drop quickly one day and got it to my dealer. Dealer told me there was a known problem with the o-ring on the oil intake tube since they moved the oil pump to the front of the engine. This problem occurs on the smaller 1500 engine 5.8?.

The dealer said if I caught it early enough that only the o-ring would need to be replaced and that's exaclty what they had to do. Otherwise, they would have to do a value job or replace the engine.

Good luck with yours Hangman.

Experienced this on my 2002 5.3 a while back so I cleaned the throtle body and put some Techron in the gas and it was gone. Took another 1800 mile trip and it's back again. Must be a problem with carbon build up as stated on multiple posts. :B:

It's in court now, it will be interesting to see what happens.

Hi All

What I thought was piston slap on initial start of the day appears to come from the top of the engine.Using a stethascope and listing to the valve train--it appears top come from the rocker/lifter area.

The bleed down on the 2500 8.1 liter engine is about 40 min--it takes that long to get a proper oil level reading.

The average oil usage has settled to about 2000 miles / qt using Mobil 15w50 synthetic.

Has anyone else listened to the engine after initial start--the noise lasts for about 1 to 3 min depending on the temp outside.
