Plasti Dip Pictures

have you seen the repair stuff for it? They have on their website a repair solution so you dont have to peel the old coats off.  (y)

No I haven't, I just figured I would peel the hadles off if they get to looking bad. I had the same plan with any other areas if they present themselves. None except the drivers front door handle yet, I'm now thinking that this is going to last a lot longer than the 12-18 months that the guys on the jeep forums are getting. I'm 7-8 months in now and I didn't wash it at all from November until last week, except the occasional hosing to get some salt off. Either they have done poor applications or they are really beating the crap out of it. I don't see any reason at this point that this shouldn't last for years if you don't abuse it. For what it costs, you could do a different color, or re-coat every 2 years and it would be 10 years before you were even close to the cost of actually re-painting.

I dipped the outline of the raised center part of the hood (it's a big squared "u") last summer and it did not appreciate this winter. Peeling on the inner edges in a few places. However the dipped stripes on the hood cowl and tailgate and the dipped fenders above the wheel wells are all doing fine.

Kind of like this?  I did this as a test to see if I wanted to do the whole thing.  Had it like this for about 6 months w/ no issues.  I even hit it with the pressure wand at the car wash the week I was going to peel it off and it stayed put. did you use anything to strip the wax off the hood, or did you just wash it and the spray the dip?

Yes similar to that, I used alcohol to clean the area and then washed it with dawn dish soap and then wiped with alcohol again and let dry. Same process with the other areas and no issues. I think the amount of snow sitting on it and being brushed off repeatedly through the winter really didn't help. I'm thinking because I only did the angled raised parts on the hood that the upper edges were probably getting pulled as I pulled off the snow. It's not bad but I know they are there. Never had a problem with the pressure wash when washing it. Noticed it late in the winter during the last few snows after cleaning the snow off.

Finally got mine done yesterday. Anything gray is now sexy black. Only used 9 cans, I don't want it peeling of easily at all.

Those of you that took on the job of the cladding... How did you do it? I've considered taking off all of the cladding but that seems like a boat load of work. Did you just tape off the entire truck?

Pretty much

Got some cans of the plasti dip glossifier to add a slightly glossy look as I am not a big fan of that matte black finish.

Lower cladding drying out for a few more coats.
Upper cladding has 2 coats of the glossifier on it.

Rear bumper dring out after a few o\coats of glossifier.
Still debateing wheter to leave the emblems dipped or not.

Oh Boy
I used 12 cans including the glossifier to do the whole truck.
It was still too thin in some places and started tearing off eventually in the middle of winter.
I hope you have better luck with that than I did.
If I were to do it again, I definitely would not use the rattle cans for such a big project

I run a small garage and have a lot of people coming in for plasti dip. I am currently looking into getting a dip kit from www.dipyourcar.com and get all my dip straight from there.

I would try and get a decent amount of people lined up and try to become a DYC licensed shop. You would probably get dip and supplies at a better cost.

Yeah man I have been thinking about that. Just trying to make the company grow right now. Whatever I can do is better than nothing right now

He masked a lot more than I did, I just used masking tape and newspaper, just enough to cover the majority of the paint, didn't bother with the lights or glass cause it cleans off them so easily.

Btw, it's also transparent, I sprayed right over my sail panel leds, and they shine through nice and bright

I created another thread of this...maybe I should've just posted it here  - doh! :p But I plasti-dipped 4" fender stripes on my AV yesterday. The pictures make the stripes look grey but its actually matte black and very discreet when looking straight at it. LOVE plastidip!!

DANG DUDE THAT LOOKS AWESOME!!!!!!

I was thinking of doing the exact thing when it gets warmer since I saw that on another member's truck here.
You've beat me to it.

I think I'll still give it a shot if you guys don't mind me copying as that just looks really sweeeeeeeetttttt.

Yeah it was Ice9812's av where I saw the stripes, it seems his stripes are offset though...the back stripe looks thicker than the front:

I actually had the two 4" fender stripes on my BMW and was thinking of doing it to the AV for awhile, but since I recently added the carbon fiber wrap on my hood and review mirrors I thought it would've been too much. The matte black is so discreet that it doesn't look that bad tho ;) Thanks Dluvr22!

I copied you and Ice today, blackedout, hope ya don't mind

Here's my plastidippage so far:  Stripes, shoes, and letters:

(I wonder how many times I can post this picture today ;D )

Nice looking and very clean truck.
I guess that will soon be a new trend.
Nice that every one of them still looks a bit different in the slant of the stripes and the sizing.
No two are exactly alike.

Yeah i wanted mines as discreet as possible...matte black over factory black seems to work well :) Nice stripes people!!!

Nice job I like the matte black .....I almost did the matte black originally but I went with the silver to match the z71 front bumper
